Could someone explain the 3 tokes and pass thing?

Puff Puff Pass .... & no tobacco or crutch in it ..... i save the roaches & roll second generation joints out of them . you wanna talk about resin oozing out the end ,smoke a second gen joint

this is an average sized J that i smoke , mainly to my head every night after dinner .

In Europe, we usually mix weed with tobacco (a morally reprehensible and repugnant act, you wouldn't mix a bottle of Chateau Neuf du Pape with bleach would you?) and seem to hold onto the doobie for a lot longer.
I understand our American brethren and sistren smoke pure doobies (as do I) but they seem to be passed very quickly - why is this? Either skin up a bigger doobie or roll little ones each is surely the answer? I like to enjoy my sucking on a doobie for more than 3 toots.
And while I am in question mode, is it only the European who put a proper roach in? I've been passed American doobies which were more than a little soggy at the end.
Any other idiosyncratic smoking habits that people have?

European & American toking habits spring from different heritage. Way back, in the 60's, Americans smoked Mexican ganja in the Mexican style- joints, no additives. Hash was rare. In Europe, they smoked imported hash in tobacco as a matter of convenience & ganja was rare. As ganja became available, they just started smoking it the way they always smoked hash.

A twenty-something acquaintance rolls in wraps, which actually make a pretty good fat joint if you don't mind the taste of tobacco. Some of the stuff he gets needs help, anyway, if you know what I mean.

no, no cardboard filters here. have put a small chunk of bud in end before though. more than one hit here will get you smacked upside the head and passed over next round. "don't bogart that joint, my friend...." talking with it in your hand is rude & wasteful (unless you rolled the damn thing, LOL!)

Puff puff pass is usually the unwritten rule when there is a circle. That way everybody has a somewhat rationed taste and it moves along quickly so nobody tries to use it as a microphone. Otherwise there would be jackasses smoking down the whole doob bogarting it and passing along a roach. And yes I have always put a strip of cardboard rolled at the end to keep the end tight, the hits even, the bud from leaking out and the ninja lippers from wetting it all up nasty. Like the end of a PFunk filter..

My old school mentor who is in his 60's has a rule of 1 toke and pass. His stuff is probably the best stuff I've ever smoked in my life. No idea how he gets that quality. Even when I grow his strains I can't get the quality that he gets.

Interesting stuff people, thanks. I think the best method is a combination of both smoking cultures, big long pure joints that you can smoke on for a while.

These "rules" were usually because the person who suddenly wanted to tell a story when it got to them, and talk and smoke half before passing, was usually the person who never pitched in or broke out their own. The person who would magically appear as soon as anyone finished rolling.
Sometimes add cardboard. used to be a novelty paper brand that came with perf strips to tear off and roll up, also willy's wire(?) had a built in wire for a roach clip for non filter/cardboard

Yes, I've used the transparent papers- no better or worse than any other papers, imo.

In FL in the 90s it was two tokes and pass to the left, don't talk whIle you are holding the joint and indeed, di not break the cypher!

In South America there are no rules, and no one respectable will add tobacco.

In Israel they don't know how to smoke yet and their sad joints 80% tobacco 20% herb are unsmokeable...don't get me started on the microcoscopic samples of hash they melt into a broken up cigarette... Or those nasty plastic bottle bongs... If they roll I do not partake, if I roll, they think I'm crazy, and when they see me toke up pure hash out of a pipe they are bewildered lol, Arabs and Jews alike, ignorance about smoking herb does not discriminate hehehe there are exceptions of course.

Now if the joint was rolled from the oversized rolling paper Cheech and Chong included with their album "Big Bambu"...I don't think it would really matter, as there are probably 100+ tokes available on that joint, lol. That rolling paper was bigger than big!

Yes, there is an image of Cheech & Chong on the rolling paper....too cool and a blast from the past for us old guys! Ounce plus was required to roll that baby!

i adopted smoking weed and tobacco together from you europeans when i was younger. terrible habit. lol i'm addicted to smoking my bowls with tobacco now
i use a roach/filter on my joints, i also adopted that from you guys. specifically the ALI-G movie

as for puff puff puff pass. it's about group dynamics. you don't sit down to smoke weed with a group of people then sit there taking your sweet ass time babysitting the blunt while it burns away. fucking pass that shit. 3 hits and pass, 2 and pass on a joint. if you fuck up the rotation you get a warning then you're out.

Joints are very wasteful. Doing "3 drag Indian" as we used to call it, is cost effective.
