anyway, for soil:
i grew with PH as low as 5.2, also kept some at 6.2, result was similar, a good amount of bud from both types. few would tell you 5.2 works, and i think it may be too close to poisonous (getting below 5.2) for anyone not being really careful, but it does work - i couldnt spot any defs throughout entire grow!!
so i say anywhere between 5.2 - 6.2 to my knowledge, although some still recommend more alkaline than 6.2. i prefer stressing you keep a steady ph instead, you dont want fluctuations.
canna recommends 5.2-6.2 for their soil nutes by the way.

Thank you, TC:
I have grown a large variety of plants for decades, and find that the pH of most plants is pretty consistently in the same range. Now that I have an interest in MJ growing, I am finding such a wide range of pH recommendations. Since so many people such as yourself say that they can grow successfully over such a wide range, I am led to conclude that MJ is probably one of the more forgiving plants. I find your side-by-side grow experience enlightening, and must thank you for relating your findings. I inadvertently did a side-by-side with Apollo-11 and Northern Lights in the same grow, in which my soil-less mix for both strains dropped to a pH of 5. This was due to the break down of peat moss. The Apollo-11 was quite stressed by this, while the Northern Lights showed little stress. Thus, an indication of the stress coping ability, as far as pH goes, for these 2 strains. NL does have a reputation for it's remarkable forgiveness, which I proved to myself. Personally, I shoot for 6.4 or 6.5 because of nutrient absorbtion and find this works, although I have been wondering if for MJ it's the best range. Anyway, Canna's recommendation of 5.2 to 6.2 for soil must work, I presume, because why else would they say it? Perhaps there is a buffering agent in their soil mix, which allows them to make the afore stated recommendation. The Canna Terra Professional mix contains peat, by the way. Your imput, TC, adds to my knowledge base on this subject, and so I want you to know that I really appreciate what you have added to my quest in this matter.
Love and gratitude,
