I’d say it’s the universities that are driving it... there’s a large one near me, and there are groups of tens and twenties back and forth to local supermarkets, no masks or distances there.

Sure would be interesting to hear their take on the WW1 flu.

I've never seen a disease kick Western society in the nuts like Covid19 has.

Seems like people were smarter in 1348, dealing with the Black Plague.

They had a hard quarantine on ships entering the harbor, where Quarantine is Old Italian, for, 40 days.

I remember watching a burial when I was about 12 years old, and wondering why the person in the casket had chosen to die, since being alive was such fun, in comparison to getting buried in a box.

Death was in my view at that age, an option available to old people fed up with the boredom of being old. Took me a couple more years to fathom that EVERYONE would make that final "choice" at some point, whether they wanted to, or not.

'Young doctor João' died in research vaccine AstraZeneca and Oxford

BRASILIA - A Brazilian who participated as a test subject in a safety trial of a vaccine against the coronavirus from AstraZeneca and Oxford has died. The National Agency for Health Supervision (Anvisa) announced this Wednesday. According to Brazilian media, it was a doctor (28).

Anvisa states that it was informed about the death on 19 October and is not allowed to provide any further information about the patient. The University of São Paulo, involved in the investigation, confirms that it is a Brazilian, but does not give further details.

A spokesman for AstraZeneca Netherlands confirms the death. The company cannot say whether the subject received the vaccine or a placebo. “We cannot respond to individual cases. This is partly due to the strict rules surrounding clinical research. But all necessary review processes have been followed. ”

The Brazilian's death does not lead to the halting of trials with the vaccine, the spokesman said. “All major medical events have been carefully reviewed by investigators, an independent committee and the authorities. This does not reveal any concerns about the progress of the investigation. ”

'Exemplary doctor'
According to the Brazilian O Globo, it concerns the young doctor João Pedro R. Feitosa, a former medical student at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro. That institution has issued a letter of condolence. Feitosa has been called an 'exemplary doctor and student'. “The emptiness and the loss are increasing every moment. What gives us strength at the moment is how you were. ”

last news i saw claimed he was in the "control" group, meaning he had not been given the vaccine. if he had indeed been inoculated & died, they would have stopped the trial until they knew whether or not the vaccine caused the problem. this has happened once already from my reading. (different study/trial than this one) enlist a shitpot of folks in a study lasting months, odds are good that a couple of them will die from something...:ying:
