Can someone explain when/why you cut the seeds to help germ.
I've never had problem germinating in paper towel. Did you scuff those or something to help the water soak into the seed? Steele describes a method he uses. Is that what you did Cornflake and is it something that needs to be done often or just if you have a batch of seeds that are particularly strong and robust looking?
I would probably be uncomfortable trying this even if my seeds looked like stumps. If I ever try to germ in paper towels and they don't crack after a few days would I then be able to try and shave off some of the shell or is it too late then?
