ANPR automatic number plate recognition as said has been in use in the UK for several years . They are fitting as many as they can on the poice cars , you see them alongside any major roads on poles gantries etc & as they are linked to a computer within seconds there is an alert & no they cannot be fooled by any attempt to glare your number plate out as this then flags up & a lookout is then in motion because you are a vechile of interest .
Onl;y the other night on tv i was watching a Police vechile special when an ANPR told the police that the Rover in front of them was of drug interest , pulled over & found to be carrying three very big bags of manicured bud in very big plastic containers , at the time the police reckoned 1 1/2k plus . The info on his car could have come from a dozen different sources , all it took was his number , the rest was a bust .

Its not paranoia, when the dots finish getting connected this world is going to be a very bad place to be if you expect ANY privacy, liberty or freedom. (unless you paid for it)

Peace :joint:

wonder when they will knock on the door, asking to install cameras in our houses. Then, even when you masturbate, they can be sure your doing it legally.

The revolution nears... Got your guns? Got your supplies?

everyday they take away another right/ take our privacy away until there is none left, soon they will be asking everyone to have a RF chip in their drivers licenses so that you can be scanned on the freeway :(

we have to do something about this before its too late...

Easy fix....Just mount 3-4 infared led's over your licence plate, should do a good job of blinding the cameras and it would cost less than 10$ and a few minutes wiring.

Do a search for the paparazzi hats famous people wear to blind the cameras.

That would only work if they were bright enough. And if they were, you'd be looking at more than 10 bucks for materials imo. and something tells me you'd also get in a lot of trouble for doing that. but then again, maybe not! idk, interesting point you raise though.

i saw a show once where they used ir to block a camera from getting a clear picture. i thought it was hollywood hype. gonna have to look into it as my last ticket was almost 400$

Them having cameras on the cars isn't a violation of privacy. It's public information, and can be seen by anyone.

The viewing of the license plate could in theory be fair game, because it is in public view, however I would argue that all the records that they need to look up and cross reference to determine *IF* you are breaking a law, are NOT all necessarily public information. If you think about it, it is almost as if they are electronically searching you. Even the people that have done nothing wrong are being "searched" its just that their records come back OK, so they don't get a free light show from the fuzz. I mean seriously, how pissed would people be if they started searching everyone's HOUSE just to make sure no laws were being broken? Stuff like this sometimes makes me feel like we are only two steps away from such things happening. I would love to hear from anyone that believes these scanners are acceptable- If you are OK with this, then where would you draw the line?

I find it rather troublesome that computers are starting to do police work. If the average "joe cop" can't tell at a glance that I am breaking some random law, then I really don't think there is any true harm being done to society, and as such it doesn't provide due cause to write yet another traffic ticket. It just seems so inhuman and heartless to me. Again, where do we finally draw the line?

They've had them all along... they're called COPS.

I think you meant to say they have things they don't have to pay a wage for that help cops not do their jobs...

no offense to UK people here but your country is the forefront of all of this. UK is the ultimate police state..you probably have more CCTV per square mile than any other city. i am so fucking glad i dont like in the UK....seriously is there any good reason to even be in that country?
