Cool Mist Humidifier...do you use one?

Hey all: with out going off topic too much.... in the words of my father in law whom is a engineer... an air lock is created in any irregular space that is Vented and exhausted by two different sources. It creates a pocket of air that becomes pressurized and trapped. Sort of like a vacuum.

Kind of like having air in your plumbing/waterlines in your house... they shake and make lots of noise.... sometimes disturbing your water flow.....

I have no idea what that means lol..... but there it is!

I hate to disagree with your FIL, but virtually all homes built now have multiple intake and exhaust fans running at any given time. I fail to see how it could cause a pocket of air to become pressurized and trapped. Back pressure is the only problem that I can imagine and as mentioned earlier a larger fan on the exhaust should take care of this.

For what it's worth, my SIL is an HVAC guy and helped me with the ventilation for my room. He recommended both an intake and exhaust on my 1000w to help combat the heat in the summer. It works great.

Thanks for the information guys. I have my setup and I think I'm going to leave it untouched. I will however get a cool mist humidifier to try out.

My statement wasn't really referring to an airlock...positive pressure in a room isn't uncommon or detrimental it simply makes smell control a PIA.

Hempstress - I'm sure your SIL is a very nice young man, but an intake and exhaust fan running inline for your light is a waste of an intake fan. I assure you that air will not move through that system in a greater volume than the exhaust fan can allow. Suction is your friend when it comes to ventilation, when you add a intake fan to a sealed system like light ventilation you reduce the suction by causing air to buildup at the exhaust fan and then any unsealed portion of that system will start to leak (more than likely the hood...and the air will be hot). I cool 8 lights with 1 10" vortex sucking through a sealed system and it works great
