Convertible 400 Watt Hps help needed

Jhhnn I know I've beat this dog to death. But one more question. The light dims....the sound of transformer goes quit. Then after 1 minute...it comes back on. My hood is about 8 feet away from the ignitor.... Could this be the problem? Or the ignitor only come into play on start up then go dorment till next start up???

I've tried switching the ted wire going from the high side transformer with the other high side white ( lamp) wire and it works great. BUT.....the light is NOT as bright. Which leads me to beleave that I'm operating on a MH light....considering its a coverable from MH to HPS. Thanks for you time sir.

Just so you will know an HPS does whats called cycleing at the end of its lifetime,the light will dim for a time and then act as usual.I don't know if that's your problem but it is good information to know

Thanks Floridian but I've use the bulb ( or the whole thing) for no more then 1 hr. Even still has that new smell...and its working great right now....just not sure its Hps ...think its running on MH. Just not that bright.

an hps lamp wont fire on an mh setting hence the ignitor
my thoughts is ur playing with fire,if ya never seen a ballast go up in flames or worse yet is the wires to the wall out let catch on fire wich ive personally seen from peeps playing around ya wouldnt be doing it
spend the 100 on a new ballast
its not worth a life if somthin goes south

Thanks .357 I've come this far. Taken safety neasures running everything while I'm here. I'm looking at it right now. Won't run unless here..have fire extinguishers out...and the system is out in the middle of room away from every thing..and thanks but its easy for some one with 100.00 dollars to say. Thanks tho.
