Why is wreckless, irresponsible, irrational blind faith still valued at all in 21st century society? Because of people like the Bakers and Swaggart and Protein Shake Pat and the legions of small-timers who yuck it up for Jesus so that people in need can feel that someone's watching over them, caring for them, and cashing their donation checks, and telling them they're better than their sinner neighbors.
Every country and every religion is full of these types of self-aggrandizing charlatans who prey on those with a need to believe. In every one of its incarnations, institutionalized religion is a cruel fraud meant to assert hierarchy, stratify the positions of the most powerful elements of society, and assuage the suffering of the downtrodden with platitudes about heaven and a hefty feeling of moral and spiritual superiority over those without the same blind faith, rather than effect real spiritual and personal awakening and individual and collective progress. And a baffling number of well-meaning and even intelligent people perpetuate the fraud, despite knowing that the mythologies supporting it are pure nonsense, because they lack the courage to just call a void a void.
I guess the collective unconscious is still trapped in a battle to defeat death and impose order on chaos. I wonder, will our DNA ever let us get past the limitations of mortality on our consciousness? Maybe then humans can quit holing themselves up in divisive illusions.
