Yes. Start menu then all programs then Accessories then choose system tools. Click defrag harddrive. Also install that free program to defrag your ram constantly. See the link I gave in my previous post...

So I went to go defrag and saw that it did this morning. The hard drive that is, not the ram. Funny because computers been working great all day. Guess this helps a lot.

Expect the first time you defrag the harddrive to take hours. You can still use the computer but don't do intense things like try to burn a cd. If you use the computer often, defrag the harddrive weekly.

Install free ram xp pro. Its free. See the link I gave. You have to find a sweet spot with your ram. Too free = slow performance but very stable. Not free enough = not stable and also slow. You can set the program to free automatically as you open and close programs. Puts a little icon in the bottom corner of the screen that will tell you available ram. :)

Sorry but any program that claims to create more ram is actually creating more overhead. There is no way to create more ram without causing more overhead. These programs do not work.

Well I think the concept behind it is that it clears ram that is used to maintain memory of commonly running, or currently running programs. Not that it creates more ram, it just makes ram that is currently being used accessible by erasing whatever the ram is being used for.

For example, You know when a program takes forever to start up the first time, but then if you were to close it and open it again it will load very rapidly. I believe thats because that programs current processes are still saved in ram memory. I think this is correct at least.

I believe thats why Blackvelvet was saying you need to find your "sweet spot", If the free ram program is constantly free up ram always then every time you perform an action its like your computer is processing it for the first time. Not enough free ram and your computer is saving everything in an attempt to make your current processes faster. Right in the middle though and your current processes stay fast with enough free ram to log new processes.

At least I think thats the idea. Just a shot in the dark. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong and tell me what the real deal is.

Blackvelvet- I'm gonna light up right now, heres a hit for you

My computer has been working well today, I will download that ram freeing program if it starts to give me trouble again.

Monitor how programs use memory, and try to make the most efficient use of the memory you have.

Your PC's memory is a little bit like a plate of cookies at a party: You turn your back and it's all been nibbled away. FreeRAM XP Pro is a free utility that tries to keep your memory from being consumed by a system full of hungry programs.
The program optimizes how apps use memory, forcing them to use the minimum required and leaving as much as possible free for other programs. This should (in theory) make your computer faster and more responsive. Although it's tough to tell how good a job it does, it seemed to be more intelligent than Windows in keeping memory free. In addition, the ability to free up large chunks of memory is useful if you are going to be running a program that needs it (a feature FreeRAM XP Pro calls AutoFree).

Of course, this utility won't make your system as fast as adding more memory to your motherboard, but it's a useful tool if you find yourself running low on memory and want to try and make more efficient use of what you have. FreeRAM XP Pro is a little easier to use than RAMBooster, and the AutoFree mode is easier to use than the equivalent mode in RAMBooster.

However, bear in mind that the developers don't provide direct support for this free program. As a result, there is no telephone or e-mail support, and the feedback link on their Web site didn't work when I tried it.

Hey...best of all its free. :D

That plate of cookies analogy. Whats that from, a movie right? You just gave me huge dejavu . Is that from "A Scanner Darkley"?
