Why not go through the effort and make sure all your bottles are light proof? Then you don't have to worry if the plant minds it or not. Better be safe than sorry. But your ladies will let you know what to do.

I use garrila tape (same shit im sure) and wrap it around my container. leaveing just a small strip to see the soil. Makes for a nice window. yet protects a large % of the roots.

I agree, most strains don't mind the light on the roots, but I'm a "best practice" sort of guy, and I figure for me, at least, it would be worth the effort to make sure they are not exposed.

It's also somewhat strain dependent. What I'm curious about, stihgnobevoli, is what those plants might look like had they NOT been exposed. Don't take that the wrong way please, I'm just curious and wish there was a way to see. Maybe I'll do a control sometime and do some plants with roots exposed to light, and some that are light protected.

Great plants none the less, my man!

Is it possible that the light root prunes kinda like air pruning? ie smart pots

I always thought that the purpose of using opaque containers was to discourage the growth of bacteria and mold that can use the light to photosynthesize. An opaque pot would help to keep your plants from competing with other non-producers in the soil.

Some bacteria and mold are good to have in the soil.

mothers?

mothers?

:joint: DOC,
How big do you let your mothers grow if you need idk... 10 cuttings to choose best 7 to root(each week). when do you make a new mother (after # cuttings or height?)?
I am new to growing:1help:, will prolly just use a bag seed and hope for a nice female to try and run with.
Should a box size be based on the number of flowering weeks... ir example... if a bottle is 3.5"Diam x 9 weeks or 12weeks..... whats the best way to know what to make box dimentions?
Even though the economy is bad, pfff even good... paying for natural meds is just crazy.
Also can you show detail on cloneing without chemicals...stuff from lowes or walmart is best...absolutly no grow shops around here that i ahve seen.
Pics are greatly encouraged plz... more the better... im visual:canabis:
:laughing:single mother size, clone steps, please!:1help:

If you don't mind I will try to answer some of this stuff for you... Hope I am not stepping on anyone's toes, please excuse me if I do. Mothers are typically kept in a way that suits the grower, if you have lots of vertical space you can let them grow tall but if you need to keep them in a compact location as is the case with most growers you keep them short and stout and bushy. There is a whole thread here about bonsai moms here: http://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=31919

If you read that thread you will see that mothers can be kept very small and if they are getting out of hand you just cut them back again. There is no end mark on mothers, as long as they are disease and pest free they can be kept. My advice would be to make sure you thoroughly wash any clone you are thinking about using for a mother to make sure there aren't any mold or pest problems down the road with the clones from her. Box dimensions are really a personal thing. Most people use something they have laying around, a dresser, a fridge, rubbermaid containers, or they buy a grow tent. When trying to figure out how much space you are going to use think about the electrical availability, how many lumens per foot you are going to need, the ventilation, the amount of meds you need, etc. But you are right if you are running a 14 week sativa you are going to need more plants going to continuously supply your need for herb as it takes longer for them to mature.

As for the cloning process you can use a technique called air layering but without using cloning gel it is going to be slow going. You could theoretically make your own cloning solution but that isn't anything more than speculation on my part. I guess you could build a diy aerocloner or a vermiculite cloner box but I still think it would take much longer for them to show roots without cloning gel. Here is a thread about air layering https://icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=88797&page=2 and if you want to know about aero cloners http://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=40055 and the walmart cloner I was talking about http://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=42847. Hope I helped a little.

yes, thank you. this was helpful.:woohoo::smoker:

Np man, I think there is a recipe at the end of the thread on air layering about willow tea as a rooting agent, that might be helpful, I have used it for a while on things other than cannabis and it works well. I do find that using a coffee grinder and no heat, just soaking for a long time works much better.

I'll second that, what a great thread. Was worth the time I put into reading it.

:yeahthats

Yea man, thats what happens when people try to help one another. Just pass it on.

question, common prolly

question, common prolly

In a 12/12 No veg cab... All flowering... example... doc's 1sqft box has 5 bulbs... are they all 2700k or 5600k?.... isnt 2700 better spectrum for budding? If i make a 1'x3 cab, is 15 bulbs going to be too much or too little? Most important i need to know is the bulbs... what gives best results for buds?
Thanks in advance

Well first off Kweb his cab in this grow is 2 sq ft not 1 so it's 2ftx2ft with 5 42w 2700K CFLs and yes that is the best spectrum for flowering. Now 15 bulbs could be fine if they are all 23w or 26w and it's going to get hot in that box so make sure to have intake and exhaust and you should be on your way to growing your own stash in no time.
