I could never get into Jeff Dunham...
I feel like his jokes are weak and his topical humor is a few years old.

I find myself changing channels in disgust until a 'real' comedian takes the stage.

Normally, I don't post negative remarks like this, but Jeff Dunham hits a goddamn nerve with me. Ventriloquism? Really? Ugggghhh...

Actually, I wasn't aware he went on stage without his dummies...

A real comedian, to me at least, doesn't rely on props to generate laughs. I should word my posts more carefully in the future, as I left myself wide open with that one...

Richard Pryor was a modern master, and I loved Carlin when he was a younger man. But I recently watched his 2003 special at the Beacon on DVD and was bored to tears.

My favorite comic would have to be the late Bill Hicks. Nobody else can make the horrible truths of modern-day society quite as funny as he does...

Ok, well, the "I keel you" is straight up Jerky boys, circa 1994. The rest of it was rather painful, so I cut out early, but based on what you said, Leader, the rest of it sounds a lot like some Joe Rogan material.

Panop, I am with ya all the way buddy. Except, I think I found my own exception to the prop rule. I can't believe I am about to say this, but.... Carrot top did a hysterical 2 minutes at someone's roast- I think Snoop's. Maybe it's because I'd had such low expectations?

Also, Pablo Francisco, not that funny IMHO. My buddy raved about him, too, but I really don't want to think that I am funnier than the comic I'm watching perform. He's like a not good Dane Cook, who is already not so good. His early stuff I thought was a lot better because it felt more sincere. If it's not irreverent humor, it had better be from the heart, whatever it is. Speaking of Irreverent....

MITCH HEDBERG- Fucking. Genius.

And I may catch flack for this one, but has anybody ever seen any of Ellen Degeneres's early stand-up? From the closeted years? Some of it is absurdly funny. She'd tell a story, and every fact would be adjusted right after she told it, until it was basically the exact opposite of what she'd first said.

"I dated this guy one time, well I didn't date him, but we were friends with benefits. Well, not benefits, but we were friends. Not great friends, but pals. Well, maybe not pals, we knew each other. Well, I knew him, he didn't really know me. I'd watch him, through his bathroom window...." shit like that.

PANOP, and everyone else, I highly recommend Daniel Tosh. He may be the funniest new comic out there. He is super fast, witty, sharp, and totally un PC. But not in an Andrew Dice Clay kind of way.....

Excellent recommendation, Huff...

I saw his most recent special a month or so ago on Comedy Central, and that kid was on fire. Nick Swardson makes me laugh too, but I don't think he's had a stand-up special in a while.

Asa- The Jerky Boys were a crank call duo who, as a variety of characters, would harass the bejeezus out of people. One character was an Indian (dot, not feathers) that shouted "I Keel you! I bomb that fucking place". Joe Rogan is the guy that hosted Fear Factor; he is also a stand-up comic. Mitch Hedberg is known for the random, "how the hell does he think of that?", type stuff. "You will never see a sign that says, "Escalator out of order, sorry for the inconvenience. You should see a sign that says, Escalator temporarily stairs. Sorry for the CONvenience."

Panop- I'm glad you caught it! I did too, and peed myself a little. By Nick Swardson, you mean Johnny Kangaroojoos? haha, he is hysterical, too. Every time I see him on Reno 911, I lose it. The roller skates and hot pants? Too funny. "What's up......Po-lice...."

Honestly I only have seen one episode by pablo fransisco, where hes on comedy central doing voices and he does the movie voice in the end which is the best ever. I just like him for the voices, not so much jokes. Then Dane Cook is ok, but really from the moment I saw him the first time it looked like he was trying to hard to win over the audience with crazy shit more than funny jokes, hes kind of wasted space imo
