DOWNLOADING MOVIES??LOL
the 'effective' way to do it, is to get a netflix account, and copy everything they send you. ive got about 600+ movies in 3 years...only cose a few hundred dollars, keeping ur pc on 24/7 isnt cheap or good, for it, nothing like the thrill of downloading the newest 'cam' huh? even TS's suck ass. waste of time. just rub sand in your eyes.

~ on the real dont trip on the email.

Just tell them that your wireless network was unsecured and that it is now.
Did that years ago.
Just tone it down a little and you'll be OK.

^^ good idea. and then install peer guardian...pg won't make you foolproof, but it will help a lot. always run pg when you're dling hbo shows and/or really recent popular movies.

also, use a torrent site that has a really good(and used) comment section. (www.mininova.org) because a lot of times when the coporate nazis hijack certain torrents, people will post about it and you can sleer clear. pz

so are they monitoring what you do online or your bandwidth usage or what? scary.

nah somehow they hijack the torrent, and then they can see who is dling, and eventually trace it back to your isp. then they contact yer isp which leads to you getting an email

-edit: i know a lot of people it's happened to. worst thing that happens is your lose your service with them...never heard of anyone i know being prosecuted.

Boosh!

I love me some Netflix. My DVD-R consumption tripled a week or two after signing up...

thanks for all the positive emails!

Im not to worried about it, Im not some illegel bootlegger selling illegal dvds out of my car, i had like 5 torrent files tops.

I had the same idea about the wireless network as well. The movies are on my laptop not my desktop, and my laptop is running a pirated version of XP, so thats the last thing i would want them to know about. I will prob just say i dont even own the laptop if anything comes of it

I'd be careful, they're very intrusive to privacy.

But, yeah, seriously. Netflix is great. For $17 you get three movies out at a time and as fast as you can watch them and send them back, you get more. Turn-around is usually no more than 3-4 days depending on how close you are to the shipping facility. Simple, cheap but a really good value. Also, no late fees. Great customer service, in my experience. I'd recommend just copying the DVDs from Netflix. Far lower chance of getting caught and no legal/ISP issues.

I only wish there was a Netflix equivalent for video games. Gamefly is decent but availability for older games (and very new releases) suck sometimes. Also, their turn-around time is a little too high (5-6 days for me.) They need more shipping facilities. If only video games were as popular as movies. Netflix should just go ahead and purchase Gamefly.

Yeah it def is a good deal, but the thing is I dont really watch many movies. Dont get me wrong, I def love to watch them if they are good. There are to many garbage movies out. like i said, i only have downloaded like 5 movies in my entire life, thats why im just like wtf why did i get this shit.

I dont really like renting games either cause i play most my games on xbox live so i would rather buy them

Funny, you got a nasty-gram from your isp. Peerguardian will protect you from 99.99% of the trouble. Copyright content watchdog groups make big $$$ going thru torrents looking for IP addys downloading the material theyre payed to monitor.

Dude Comcast does not give a shit about your pirated windows, they could really care less.

You probably went over your allowable bandwidth for the month, depending on what yoru package includes, and they are letting you know that

It is still illegal for your ISP to look at what you are downloading, just like your mailman does not open your mail, ( at least you hope). They can see that it would be torrent traffic, but that is about it, there are lots of apps out there, legally that use P2P technology, they would only stop you from using too much.

The content you are downloading is between you and the owner of such content

I dont know anyone thats on a limited bw plan.

You would be wrong about what an isp can and cant do. Comcast specifically was caught blocking and lowering bandwidth to bit torrent traffic in its network. Peeps dont like that so the 'net' result is Comcast being investigated and fined by the FCC.

http://www.geek.com/comcast-blocks-bit-torrent-traffic/

You were right that it wasnt Comcast caring about the dl in the first place. Usually they forward a copy of the letter they received from the watchdog group. All Comcast does is review the logs for who had what IP address for what block of time, the ports in use and the amount of traffic. They verify the info they got from the watchdog e-mail and if it matches the isp sends you a nasty-gram. The first ones almost always is a warning threatening loss of connection. The second one is usually a temp loss of internet as the isp trys to spank you into compliance. More than that usually means loss of contract.

Double funny you got the nasty-gram over downloading a musical.

Im surprized they didnt mention the watchdog group you got busted by.

Yep, your ISP simply had to send you a letter because they don't want to be liable if someone decides to come down on you for your online shenanigans.
