Movers on vert would be way cool. A couple of pulley's and you could make several lights travel up and down (just make sure you don't burn an electric cord).

But horizontal movers...I agree, no bueno.

Aircooled hoods... lose 20% of your light* to remove 25% of the heat...

Sure you get less heat, but you'd get less heat from running less light too. In order to run a 4 light system with aircooled hoods you really need 5 lights to get the same amount of light.

*glass by itsself only blocks 5%, but I've never seen clean glass, even running a filter there's always this white haze on the glass.

Mine are spotless. I'm a clean freak anyways but only have to clean them maybe once toward the end of a flower cycle. I put on the filters that look like the K&N car filters onto the end of each row.. It offers no resistance and blocks 99.9% of the dust. Pretty happy with it really.

In a 10x10 room 4 lights not air cooled would be beyond hot unless you're sealed and air conditioned. IME moving a ton of air wouldn't cut it and would really hard to get to a stable constant temp.

I think sealed rooms are too much $$ effort and headache to be worth it. In my case I'd add ac's into that mix, I'd rather run another light than an AC.

Would be cool to see for sure but over engineered to the max. KISS

It's not too hot, I've done similar setups many times, plus used a large gas-powered co2 generator with the lights. It works year-round with no a/c at high altitude, but would require an a/c in the flats. No issues with temp at all, you just need to figure out air exchange requirements or a/c capacity.

Also, I just switched from sealed/air-conditioned to venting and the sealed setup was the easiest setup ever, my a/c also dehumidifies and has a built in thermostat, so the room only required a single 5" exhaust vent and no environmental controls at all beyond what's built into the a/c unit. I borrowed a co2 gauge to figure out how much co2 to dispense, so no need for any fancy controllers there either. I'm now a big fan of sealed w/ac down here where it gets hot...

Interesting how our experiences here are completely opposite... but as far as the 4 lights/100 sqft, I've setup A LOT of grows with similar wattage per area...

I agree, sealed with ac is the only way to go if the grow is big enough to justify the cost. No fluctuation with seasons period...every grow can be the same.

4K may not justify sealed...but any bigger and I am going sealed. It just adds a level of consistency that cannot be beat.

Having said that I do realize it is not the only way that works.

Hell in my little room I cannot really tell a heat diff between when I ran air cooled hoods and now with bare bulb verts. Just as easy to move air through the room itself as it is the hoods.

I've never been able to keep heat down in sealed rooms, but then again, I do smaller scale. It usually requires, for me, a big push of air to keep sealed rooms cool.. way more than the cubic footage would indicate. Then again, vent and heat have always been a tricky thing for me to tackle in spite of my experience growing.

I doubt I want to do vertical growing because I don't really see the point of flattening out one side of the plant just to bank on height. If it's all about distance than why not just get a railmover or something? Or increase your vents on an aircooled reflector?

I am debating on CO2. It's expensive but from what I understand, worth it. Does the "thinner air" of Colorado (6,000+ ft) mess with plants in any way?

I have called around locally and I am looking for an 8inch fan and a phresh filter 850. I am in the springs, but looks like I can get these two items cheaper including shipping on line.

Does anyone have any great recommendations where to shop LOCALLY? I dont mind throwing down a few more dollars to keep it local, plus I get it right away.

I get all my fans through Grainger. Afew bucks more but made here and last. If they dont have it in stock at your local store, they order it and you have it in a few days. Filters, another thing all together. Mine come from Way To Grow. too expensive but almost always in stock.

I bought my scrubber/fan at Way to Grow. I needed it asap, back then. Heard my neighbors trying to pin 'the funny smell'.

Big Tomato is another place.

Back from northern California, damn it was damp there
worst I have ever seen

I had friends who lost their whole crop to mold
other friends who were out drying their crops with a leaf blower every morning

sure is a lot easier to grow here with lower humidity

took our husky's ashes and scattered them
at her favorite place on the Sonoma County coastline

fun "harvest festival" but good to be back home
plants did great without me being here for a week

that gave up top customer names to the feds.......

GOOROO is reffering to the fact that the owner of Way to Grow was involved in some grow houses where WTG had supplied the equipment. Those houses were busted, and some people got some time, and the owner of WTG just got probabation and a fine. SOOOO, now everyone assumes he snitched on all his top clients, but if you drive around Denver you don't need a CLIENT list, because there are hundreds of Dispensarys rocking thousands of lights. Plus, I've shopped there for years, and I don't see any Feds in the bushes by my grow, so I still shop at Way to Grow. Mainly because they sell Canna Coco. I shop at a few other stores, too.... no sense buying ALL your stuff at the same place, may as well spread the business around....

No I was referring to big tomato. They are a large online supplier as well as being based in co. Can't find the articles. This was 3+ yrs ago either way.......

i remember all of that... it just seemed odd to have a major retailer that would take a cut off the end crop of home grows... on the front for the gear... comingle the monies from the grow pay backs & the store revenues... to just get a slap on the wrist, keep the biz & not go to jail.

i'v shopped there too... they bumped the retail prices in order to preserve the discounts rates... whatever, they'r retailers. but the other part sure seemed odd... certainly not saying he narced anyone out... sure he had a pretty lawyer to help preserve his ass. rumors. ;-0

hey everyone,
i was wondering if anyone could give me a bit of advice on what might be causing my problem.
it seems like most of my plants in veg start to flower and stop. it seems to happen in veg regardless of what i do.
it has happened under cfls, 600w MH, 250 CMH. its happened in a small homebox L tent, as well as in a panda film lined framed room. its happened with plants started as seeds as well as with clones from 3+ sources.

here is a quick pic of my most recent veg area. 250w CMH, a humidifier and some fans:

temps are between 68-80, humidity is ~50-60%.
we thought high ph soil might have been causing it, so all of the plants are now in 100% humbolt soil.
we found out we have hard water, so we have been capturing rain water and using that. the rain water is 6.8x ph, and a ppm of 11.

the problem is kind of subtle. its as if the plant starts to flower, then stops a week or so in.
here is a pic of the plant:

a bit closer:

here you can see where it started to flower, but stopped:

we have tried 2-3 different timers, all using an 18/6 veg schedule.

this has been happening every since we moved to our current location. we are growing in the basement, in the same room that has a hot water heater/furnace. although the same thing happened when we grew in an adjacent room as well as during the summer when the furnace wasnt running.

any suggestions would be great.
if i need to get more/better pics i can do that too.
thanks in advance.

Have you had this problem continue since you switched to rain water?

What is your rain-water gathering method? (Whatcha catchin' it in and what's it dripping off of?)

Using Cal-Mag? (Some has been testing at about 300% strength and messing up grows)

Fill out the questions in this thread that pertain to your setup and post it here please. :D
