think? I'm a scrog virgin but need to keep these girls tied down or they are going to get too tall.

Also real quick, do grow stores sell net trellis' or where do I need to go to get one that I can cut away at harvest?

Just did that w my current room... monsters w I flipped... lol... glad I'm not the only one ;-)

But have done some pretty severe bending & even snapping of the stems... those spots grew to be the strong points by the end of harvest... big stalks as they repair.

Never once had a nanner or issue as a consequence. I'd say green light on the bending.

funk had a cool idea w the soccer nets! but the hydro's w sell that fishing line trellis that HF sells.

Thanks for the quick response guys, I think I'll head over to sports authority and pick up a soccer net.

Another question.. or two.. what is an optimum distance to place the trellis under lights based on experience? I know the standard 18-24 inches rule of thumb, but how much do the buds stretch through the screen? Does 6" sound like enough of a gap to let them grow into? fwiw there will be some massive stretchers and some plants with medium stretch. It's so damn bright in the tents that light bleaching is definite reality if they get much closer than 16" in late flower. Def want to avoid that

SelfHemp, check out Home Depot's garden section for a "sturdy garden trellis" , it's about 4x8' with 6" squares and costs $4.

I usually just stake as needed but bigger plants are really asking for the scrog :)

I like to leave space in the netting... kinda planning for the shoots to extend out & to have to bend the next 6" of stretch downwards again. Really like twisting the stems appx 90' either direction... softens the new growth & allows for easy bending. But this is w hard wire vs soft mesh, so...?

Even still, they'll pop up 6"... depending.

Just my take, but tend to be a little harsh on the stems/stalks myself... they just repair themselves so well... and strong... ;-)

I would put the screen right on top of them, Imo the point of the net is so you control the height of the plant/increased yield.. you are literally are gonna weave all the stretch out of the plant. It will only be as tall as the flowers that come from all the tops you create by bending the branches..know what I mean..?

Yeah man I'm gonna keep it low and raise some of the smaller plants off the floor so I can start with an even canopy and then BAM! It's gonna be crazy having random buds of all sorts of different strains.

iSmoke.kush I wanted to start flowering that thing out like 2 weeks ago, but I guess we will have to wait until Mopho gets back from San Fran, this is going to be a headies plant:D

haha ok hopefully I'm not "post bombing" but I have a question for all you colorado growers.....

I overvegged in my 4x8 tent just a wee bit and can't fit the tomato cages I usually use in there.... Soooo I've decided to put a trellis across it tomorrow and click over. The plants are about 2-3 feet and bushy as hell.

My question is, is it a good idea to do this even though I didn't train them into the screen pre flip? My plan is to put the screen maybe six inches above the plants current height, flip em and train them into the screen as they stretch.

What do ya'll think? I'm a scrog virgin but need to keep these girls tied down or they are going to get too tall.

Thanks in advance
Hey man, I'm doing the same thing, kinda, for the first time as well. Basically I built frames out of pvc (against the advice from a very knowledgeable source on scrogs, but I'm stubborn at times :) ) and stretched the net over that with zip ties and duct tape. Those will be placed over the plants, I'll have 2 plants per frame. I bought the trellis netting at HD for like 3 bucks... I was planning on training them into the screens the first couple weeks of flower, unless folks advise against that?

Good luck man, I'm right there w/ ya.

**edit** also I just dry fit the pvc in case I need to make it taller in the future, if I fucked up the design**

what your gonna do is the whole time the plant is stretching weave it in and out of the net, about 2 weeks.

That's a pretty flower. What is it?

That would be still2big's creation, known as Southern Charm. If I'm not mistaken (he might correct me on this) it is a cross of Black Russian and Australian Super Skunk. Unlike the Cali purps, this shit actually gets me stoned!

Yes, exactly, I've done this with great results! The old school guys that taught me how to grow swore by the nets for many many years. My grow store does sell trellis nets. The tents are nice since you have the poles to tie them to, but the net can even help if you just toss it over your plants. Here is some plants that I trained through the net during the 2 week stretch!
Post stretch, 3 weeks in or so

~4 weeks in

And then the madness continues...

Give your self some extra space, as you can see in the left side in that last pic, I had some light burn myself. You don't have much headroom to work with in those tents, so the nets are your friend! You could always adjust the light up or down after the stretch is over!

One more quick question on the scrog... Less is more right? I mean I should probably have less plants in the same area under a screen than I would normally would have in cages?

Especially if they are super stretchers right?

Pack a bowl! Man that is a lot of tubing.

Respect.

Yeah, I have blisters all over my hands and fingers! I think I did a pretty good job on those systems. Mopho was working in the veg room last night while I was finishing those up.
