College Living: On or Off Campus; input?

Living on campus is fun if you want to party. My dorm had over 1000 guys! Most people in dorms are freshman. If you are trying to make good grades, live off campus. You may still try to be involved in activities outside of class on campus. Best place to meet hot babes = library.

Dorms suck for smoking as has been sstated

Not in my dorm, there you just put a towel to your door below and your fine.

Didnt stop me from smoking in my room (by the way here in europe we got dorms with one not two persons in them) in bathrooms, kitchen, hallway, i smoked outosde, near the gym, near student union, outside buziness school... but i think here laws are less fucked up so it went really well for me

One guy I knew jumped out a 4 story window. He lived.

The choice is not so clear.

The decision should be based on the quality of the two options. It's not as simple as living on or off campus. How nice are the dorms. How much do they cost. How nice are off campus and how much can you afford.

I think you'll find most upper classmen move off campus for a reason. If you don't sleep very sound dorm life is bad. Banging doors, hall sports, late night wrestling contests will all be challenging to your sleep.

I personally would chose off campus even if I had to live in a trailer because of the quiet and privacy.

Then if you want the on campus life .. just go there. It's most likely some of your friends will be in the dorms and you can always go hang out with them.

Of course in most off campus situations you have roomates anyway. The difference here is that you have somewhat more control and it SHOULD be quieter, but you have to sorta of pick your room and roomates well to ensure you get privacy and/or quiet.

One advantage I've seen in dorm life is that most colleges have their own wannbe police force. The beauty of this is that in many cases they will not turn you over to the police, but just make you change dorms or something stupid. I've seen guys get busted with enough drugs that they should probably serve time and the campus police don't turn them in.

Cops aren't allowed to just come by and regulate on the campus. It's like a private estate and they allowed to go their cop thing there. They don't even come onto the parkings lots to regulate traffic/parking rules because it's a private lot. So, that's a very cool advantage especially for certain people.

Still I'd personally bet I'd beat the odds and simply be safe by being anonymous. Whatever drug use I decide to do will be easier to pull off outside the campus/dorm setting,

Break out a bag of fresh KB on campus and then you gotta walk in close quarters around a bunch of people and let me tell you sometimes they smell that shit on you and your just spreading around the information on what your private hobbies may be. Of course, it's college, so they'll all forget in a week to focus on the latest greatest drama.

Plus I HATE THOSE FUCKING fire drills and those asshole who pull the fire alarms for fun. FUCK YOU PEOPLE. Man imagine sleeping at 2 am and some asshole pulls the alarm in the middle of the winter. If could be fucking snowing out there and you have to jump up and fucking throw on comes clothes and get your ass outside in the freezing cold. That and the banging doors and all night traffic and the RA's potentially spying on you turn me off dorm life.
Plus it tends to be a rip off for the money you pay and space you get.

If you have real nice dorms though it could be a whole different story. In some places they have like private halls that only hold like 4-5 dorms. So that means if people are loud then it's those 4-5 people and you can effectively regulate, but in most places it's a long hallway full of all kinds of people and half of them don't even life on that floor.

If real estate prices are high in the area off campus could be serious $$$ so you should really like get some price figures and go check out what some of these off campus housing looks like and how far you might have to walk or do you get parking. If the university is in the city parking is a major thing and the college probably charges a lot for parking but it should come with any off campus place you get. You can pick like all stoner roomates and be surrounded by 'cool' people but you know the more shit going on in one house the more dangerous it will be especially with college guys trying to impress college girls back at the pad.

i've done the dorm thing for awhile and at a couple different school and usually it's a tiny space, a shared bathroom and loud neighbors.

If your responsible enough to get the job down on campus then go for it. Its not what you know, its who you know. :)

If your seriouus about your education, get a one bedroom apartment near campus; no roomates. go straight home after class, do all your homework ASAP, then go have a good time with friends at the dorm or the student union or whatever. If you live off campus, join a fraternity, they'll have plenty of parties with plenty of young freshmen girls away from home for the 1st time. then you can go to your PRIVATE apartment with the nice young ladies. also, you control when you party/etc and when you study/do homework. Just my 2 cents, but I never graduated because I partied too much and had no discipline when it came to telling friends "no, I gotta study". The private apartment will be a plus all the way around. Theres a reason upper classman get apartments or houses off campus, peace and quiet.

im gonna disagree with you jesusbuiltmygro. the college i went to did not have its own police force and since your dorm was not your property if you were suspected of anything they had the right to search your room wherever they wanted too. This meant that you had to deal with the local police and not campus safety. Though they did do room safety checks a few times a semester and if you werent present in your room they werent allowed to look in your fridge for booze or go through your drawers. Even if you were present you could refuse them to look in their too, but it might raise some suspicion. Luckily i never had to deal with that i was usually at my buddys burning when they did the room checks.

This was why i was so nervous about nug and why i never burned in my dorm. I love my situation this year i live about 5 blocks from school and pretty much surronded by college students.

I would defintely find out how your school is way the pro's vs cons and see what suits you best. Maybe try living on campus for the first semester or the first year and then find an apartment if you dont like it. I defintely enjoyed living on campus, but a lot of things irritated me and caused unneccessary anxiety. If you choose to live off campus try and find a place thats close and possibly walking distance.

Yeah we had that too, quite often i should say. I actually quite liked it, fresh air! Here it s not so cold and usually checks come out all in their night cloth and stuff :) :D

Nah it pissed me off becuase, i used to smoke at night, and fire men used to walk along the floor with a master key and could open any door andh check.

I think im going to save that , as a narrative about drug life in college

Great pic POMH

"If your seriouus about your education, get a one bedroom apartment near campus; no roomates. go straight home after class, do all your homework ASAP"

I did all my homework only before the exams/test, even in my final year!! :jump: :headbange :bigeye: Probably explains my grades and resits :chin: whatever it was i was not a nerd in my terms

"I partied too much BUT had discipline when it came to telling friends "no, I gotta study"."
That is what i will have to do for my masters tho :chin:
