i have a nice lil pile of mainly top colas that had been damaged hence there are some molded pieces in the middle of the nugs. mainly good pieces but i didnt wanna take any chances of spreading so i cut out the whole piece.

i probly have 4 or 5 oz of molded nugs. if i were to cook with this what temps should i bring it up to to kill mold? when i add a lil water there is a bottom layer that forms under the butter of the crap or excess material, will it be pulled into this water area when i refridgerate it, or stay with the butter...

im just not too clear on any of this... any imput would be much appreciated.

should i try to snip out mosta the molded pieces? seeing most is good product. anyways please give me some thoughts! thanks Dime

well so far... im plannin on bringin the water temp up to approx 120C or 160F throw the buds in there for about 5 minutes let them boil. then add butter and bring down to a simmer. after i get the butter cooled and the bottom water crap off it... when i cook with it ill bring the temps up to where mold cant survive... and call it a day. well i have made about 3 batches of butter so far... each using approx. 2 oz of buds to 2 or 3lbs of butter. i let it cook for at least 3 or 4 hours and it came out Extremely potent. definately well worth making it from buds for the body and head high. Peace Dime

I've made brownies out of slightly molded buds, with no bad side effects.

If you put a moldy bud in water and shake it, you can see the mold float to the top.

I was just thinking that if you put it in oil/water and strain the bud out, any spores left would float on top of the water. And when you freeze the water you could just scrape the top water off, along with any mold still left. Just my theory....

First dry the moulded buds so that you can crash them in a fine powder. Gently blow on the powdered weed, while stirring it. You will see most of the mould fly away. The rest will float on water, or get nuked over 140 degrees celsius.

iv been taking a plastic bag poking lotsa holes in it and lay down some screen in the bag... than run warm water through the buds and shake it real well... try to get as much off before cooking it as possible. after baking it in treates mold cant survive at those temps so im not too worried about it. it has been layin me out at night... definately puts ya to sleep after a pleasant body high. well can anyone fill me in on what toxins remain? iv been eating this cannabutter and am at least wanting to know what could be problems to face... its damn good too... i strained it alot before cookin it... ran lotta water through bags with it... hopefully i dont get sick from ingesting.. but at the temps that baked goods are cooked it seems highly unlikely any of these toxins would survive? maybe im just ignorant. There is this bubblehash method for removing contaminants as the mold floats to the top, the trichomes sink to the bottom, and the green or whatever stays in the water.

GrowFAQ :Salvaging Moldy Buds & Making Trichome Butter

There is two methods of salvaging your moldy stuff, those that have bubble bags and those that do not (This can be done whether you have bubble bags or not, you can still apply the same methods).

1. Take a large clean pail or bowl and place in your moldy product (the more stuff you have will determine the size of the bowl/pail).

2. I would suggest that you break the buds up instead of using them whole. This method is best used when your leaves and buds are wet.

3. With your wet product chopped and minced up in a bowl, add cold cold cold water... have the water chilling in the freezer to the point where it is starting to freeze. Also add lots and lots of ice to this mixture into the bowl. I've been told, "When you think you've got enough ice, add some more".

4. Now use a blender to mix the product, water, and ice combination. The idea is to freeze the trichomes and break them off so they are mixed in with the water, not to liquefy the leaves and buds!

5. Once you are satisfied that the mixture has been mixed enough, you can scoop out the bulk waste and store it in another bowl for you to repeat this process later. Now you should be left with a bowl of murky greenish/tannish water and ice.

Wait a bit and you will see the heavier stuff (trichomes) start to settle to the bottom... this is GOOD! Looking at the top of the water, you will see some scum floating, and the whitish mold particles. Usually waiting 10 minutes is plenty, and at this point you will clearly see the good stuff has settled to the bottom, leaving the unappealing mold floating on the top of the water.

5. Take a spoon and scoop it out the top mold floaters from the jar, that way you wont lose any of the heavy trich's that have settled to the bottom. Ok, now pour the liquid into an easily manageable container and let everything settle again. Scoop off any remaining mould and floaters from the top of the water. Mix and repeat until you are certain all mold spores are gone.

At this point you can now repeat this process with the bulk waste that you have left in another bowl. There are tons and tons of trichomes, so you will probably want to repeat this process two or three more times to get the most of out it.

>For those of you that have bubble bags, you can now place that liquid back into bubble bags and continue making bubble hash.
>If you do not have bubble bags, you can evaporate the trich liquid or make trichome-butter.

To make trichome-butter:

1. Add the trichome liquid into a pan containing melted butter. Let the mixture come to a boil and then let it slowly simmer and evaporate off the excess water, leaving you pure trichome-butter."

well so far i have been consuming it with no ill affects... which like NY General was sayin .. not sure any long term affects that might be from toxins that might survive.. but i think past a certain temperature all poisons to your body should be destroyed?
so far iv had just awsome body high from this bud butter... very potent... definately doin the trick for me.

any other opinions or thoughts are very welcome. Peace, Dime
