Coco Hempy style.

I don't buy the hard water version even though my water is hard( 0.6EC). Just keep an eye on things and I'm sure you'll be fine. Adding a little extra epsom shouldn't cause an issue...and the extra boost of sulpher should be a benefit as well.

Hey Guys, I'm running a 2 gallon coco(Botanicare) hempy and have a couple questions. I have some some white stuff along the edge of the bucket, in parts that don't get much water if any. I normally water in the middle of the bucket. Does anyone know what it is, it appears to be salt of some mold? Also when I water the coco moves around quite a bit. I read that putting a layer of hydroton can help, but I don't want to put it down until I figure out what the white stuff is. Also put a pic of the FMS Grapefruit (10 Days) I'm growing.

Mold?

I also get this mold stuff mainly around the edge too... tbo it doesn't bother me much. Imo you should water ur buckets evenly and with no rush. Using a bottle with a nozzle would help you with that n not moving the coco much too

I have the same thing Deuce, but I think mine came from a milk jug I started with..I thought it was clean but after I watered my plants the first time I noticed a spoiled milk smell. i cleaned my jug but I noticed the white crap a couple of days later. I water like jorgblen does and it's not bad

ive been using this method along with the KISS method and this has by far been the best (healthiest) grow ive had. also very very easy. i only need to water them every 3-4 days.

I have 20 days left until planned harvest, when do you guys start flushing. I read to start flushing at 14 days and to use ph'ed water. I have been feeding at ph 5.8, so I assume I continue 5.8. The feeding schedule provided by dyna-gro states to only flush the last week.

Rule of thumb....never feed coco straight water. Cut your nutes to 1/4 strength for flushing.
...i flush with tap water that has been sweetened with blackstrap molasses at about a tablespoon per gallon for the final 2 plus weeks, like PTB said, 3 weeks is best.

...coco being basically inert means my plants yellow up nice for me after a good flush.

Wait what? Can someone explain this to me please?

I spoke to this in post #292 bro.

...i think some believe that because coco is functionally inert you MUST feed SOMETHING even through the flush, ...my own experience seems to indicate otherwise.

Does the black strap/ mold attract bugs or mold to the coco?

Coco should never be fed straight water...period. Not even a leaching or a flush. It throws everything out of balance...and you don't really need that in the final week or two do you?

I cut my nutes back to 1/4 strength and every thing starts to yellow up pretty quick.

For that matter....try feeding your girls lower strengths throughout the whole grow...and I'll think you'll find less flush if any is required.

Coco is NOT inert...
Otherwise you'd be able to treat it just like hydroton, perlite and other 'inert' mediums.

Coco actually reacts with your nutes, hence the reason Lucas for coco is 6/9 instead of 8/16.

Were I to hazard a guess, I'd have to say that the advocacy for 'something' in your flush water vs. 'nothing' would be for pH reasons mainly.... not because the medium is inert.

Cannabis can withstand plain water in "inert" medium for up to a month... longer if it's been overfed at any point in the last 30 days. Regardless of whether it's "inert" or not, plain water is the best thing you can give any medium for the last 1-2 weeks.

Stay Safe! :blowbubbles:

Well then I guess since this is a Hempy thread..and Hempy flushes for 2 weeks it's all bullshit. Man, do what works for you. Maybe read the first couple of pages
