Cool little patio grow there. Love your pot protection, looks cool.

Hate to be a stickler but are you very familiar with what hydroponics actually is?

Hydroponics involves growing in a medium that has precision fertilized water with air pumped into it, to keep it oxygenated enough for the plant roots to be able to survive. The plant roots are sitting in a waterlogged medium, and in some systems the water is cycled through a reservoir. The water in whatever system it is must be changed perioidically to keep it fresh and because many of the nutrients have been taken out.

You're grow would be considered "soilless", if it doesn't have those aspects. Especially if its cheap, coco is the way to go though. Have read lots of good things about it.

^^^ *beeep* false - :weakestli

before u get all worked up - check ur local online dictionary ;)

u have the terminology a bit mixed up :D a lot has happended after gerrick invented the word hydroponics in 1929 - today hydro culture is divided up - The two main types of hydroponics are solution culture and medium culture - both are hydroponics, requiring they get feed mineral nutrient water. this is the key - the mineral nutrition regime.

the coco itself we use is not pre treated with any nutrition etc - its just plain coco fiber washed out to get the salts away.

coco is used pretty much the same way as rockwool - only it holds water longer time so watering is not needed at same frequency.

if u want a bit more info about our way of growing - check out the project eden thread in my signature - there we explain a bit more about the whole setup.

ur post has missleading info.

our "little" patio grow consists of about 30 plants. most females and a handfull of unsexed.

not all show in the photo - for example the clones are kept indoors - and therefore not posted in this outdoor thread.

I stand corrected. Thanks for the link. I was trying to generalize hydro as quickly as i could there. I know more about it than that, but didn't know about the other techniques such as your innert medium of coco coir hydro. I've been a little misled by teachers who have talked about hydroponics in class in the past i think.

Thanx for settin me straight, when you think about it, its the same basic principle though.

Wow Bonecarver, get outta my head! I was just commenting to a buddy of mine that we should prepare to do an outdoor hydro next season :D

Having seen your grows before, I know this is gonna be great. Perfect Nutes + Perfect Light....wow, I got a feeling this is gonna be spectacular!

pipeline - yes the nute water is the important part :D if any of the nutrition is given by the medium its not real hydro :D peace mate

nite tiger - wellcome out to the patio - have a sunchair and relax :D i wish u guys a lot of luck :D

Well I`m in man, I can feel the spanish sun already. Just cant wait to see them little babies flower soon.

one love

That's some interesting hydro facts. I'm excited to see how this all goes. I've never grown coco before or the typical hydro. Only have 3 small crops under my belt so far in soil. I'm planning on doing SWC myself in my micro NGB style grow box. This coco may make me a believer.

any questions realted to coco that u are thinking about - feel free to ask. if i dont know something - i will find it out.

I too believe strongly in COCO - its the most ecological of the hydro mediums since its a natural fibre thats renewable.

todays update :D

lets start of with the Seedlings... they have grown to about the 5th node before starting to flower. they are just getting the first hairs - so nothing too espectacular yet. lets see how much these plants will give us in harvest - they got planted out in august - so they got really minimal veg - time.

the smaler plants are put close together to suport each other in the strong gusts of wind we are having here at the moment.

the astrofog - 5 females - out of the 3 has a nice size for their age. the 3 biggest of this pheno has been topped.

one phenotipe is looking far more indica than others.. lets see if it really is an astrofog and not a BD x LR.

Blackdomina x lowryder - 3 females

the SSH x PTK

phenos C and E - the early and late phenos.

the smell is getting stronger - but its diferent to the indoor smell - lets see how it developes. all plants that got transplanted the other day look happier now.

C has started to bud - its got smal fingertipped sized tips of white hair.. its looking really nice this far. the c pheno has a more harder stem - not stronger - just like hard and more propable to snap of high weight. still it need quite a lot of miss treatment to snap - so no worries.

E is still bushing up the last bit while its slowly starting to flower - this one should get quite deacent sized buds when its done. the branches of this pheno are more flexible than the early ones.

first pic is a C pheno stme snapped a bit from some training.. and the first aid treatment of vend hehe :D duct tape is great for menging broken plants hehe

next up is the PTK/SCBB x PTK

this plant can be summed up in 3 words : short and fat

its not more than a foot tall but its looking very promising at the moment - its in the explosive part of creating new flowers - and its possible to see its going to be the first one to be harvested :D

the smell is very interesting - again its less complex smell than indoors - most of the fruityness is not present - atleast at the moment - nor the skunkyness either really - instead its a very rich powerfull sweet smell. so different to the indoor smell.

lost of resin !!

its time for the group-photos - or the the general view of the main patio of ours :D

its looking nice huh :D

we are watering around every 2-3 days. we make sure the coco is well soaked then we let it dry out a bit before the next watering - this is mostly because of economic reasons - we buy distilled water that we mix about 10-25% into the water - this gets quite quickly expensive - so the less often we water the more economic it gets. although we never let the plants get completelly dry..

the water is PH adjusted, got a low ec because of the distilled water - and the nutes work like a wonder. that gives happy fluffy plants :D

peace!

awesome man - I think I'll try out coco after I give my SWC tub a few runs. Seams like it's just as easy as soil, but all the benefits of hydro. Cool stuff.

P.s. 'Short and Fat' looks like a really promising smoke. Very mouthwatering and it's not even finished yet!

the PTK/scbb x PTK (the short and fat one hehe) is one of my fave indicas - this is the first time we grow it outdoors - and its looking so much more interesting than indoors - fatter far further down than ever before.

coco is fairly easy - just have to think of two things - water quality and the nute schedule.

peace!

Hola Bone and the others,
Instead of buying distilled water,why don´t you buy a R.O. unit? :D

B

bonecarver_OG

good question :D

to install the RO unit in a rented flat is a lot of money going spent on something thats not mine :( - the distilled water is a good solution untill i can do something else.

when my house is ready the RO is defiently going to be part of my setup.

peace :D
