CMEMORY 600hps ballast kit, is it worth it?

A good find bro - that's a great price. If you're comfortable with DIY stuff this is perfect for you. I've used them but I bent a lip on the batwings to hold a plate of glass to help protect the bulbs and help with cooling. I have one in use for 2 grows now and no problems. As long as everything is included in the kit and properly labelled and tested it's the same as an assembled system IMO.

Everything I've used is hand-me-downs or dumpster diving treasures, common sense and a healthy respect for electricity go a long way. With good planning and care you shouldn't have any problems IMO.

And did I mention that's a great price! :woohoo:

I can't speak for that particular piece of gear, but I have met the owner of this place personally and he is a stand up guy. His name is Wes. I would trust him not to sell junk.

Ps- I have seen others use the DIY ballast with no issues.

Hope this helps,
M

sweet deals,so is a ballast box needed?

I hear you can use an ammo can. Or I'll just make my own out of wood or sheet metal and add some fans to it : ) Any other comment? If you have it or know of it, PLEASE comment. Thanks! You all help is ALWAYS greatly appreciated!

I could have sworn I saw someone on here mount the ballast and the ignitor right on the back of their cabinet. Do more research on that idea, as I am not sure if it is safe or not.

I know a guy that runs mutiple 600Watt setup. He just screws the ballasts to a 2X6 chunk of wood say 2-3 feet long. Then grounds the transformer to ignitor and cap(outside casing). Works well no need for addisional cooling and vibration is non existent.

Myself I mounted my 1000 ballast inside an old tower computer case. Talk about stealth!!!! you can look right at it and never know where the cords dissapear to!! No overheating problems, no fans just the gaping holes where the power supply and CD player used to be.

Wicked price for that setup.. here i would expect to pay about 350 +for all that stuff.

Mounting directly to the cab is fine, as long as your wireing is neat and tidy.Last thing you want is to be walking by it and catching wires.

Yeah, I wired mine up myself. No problems. If you have questions, PM me. I got mine from 1000bulbs.com, it's actually a tad cheaper then the site you provided. Check shipping costs, it may be even cheaper and they ship super fast.

Which ballast did you get , I was looking at the Sola 1000w ballast kit here:

http://www.1000bulbs.com/products.php?cat=1000-Watt-High-Pressure-Sodium

Was the one you got a sola as well ?? Also has anyone else used them that can testify to their quality ??

I'm willing to spend the extra money for a pre-assembled one I just don't know which is a reputable company for electric ballasts (non coil) ...
