Closet Insulation Question

I live in an appt. I have a closet that is hot during the summer and cold during the winter. this could be due to two things. one being there is no vent in the closet. two could be that it is poorly insulated...

the problem is I am adding a 400w open air cmh and im not sure what to expect from the temps during a hot summer with that closet door closed and the light on. Last summer without the light even being in there it was usually around 80 degrees when it was 85 degrees or warmer outside (90% of days in the summer here are) thats with the door closed and no light. This summer I am adding a 400w CMH and that will probably send the temps to around 85-90 degrees which will be too hot.... my question is would a small portable air conditioner be sufficent for this 5 x 4 x 8 closet? If so what size? I am trying to keep it under 100$

Any other ideas for getting temps down besides running ducting through the wall or making any holes in my wall? Thanks....

you could do the good ole fashion bucket of ice everyday... :D but ya unless the door is open its going to be hard to vent a closet with no holes... maybe you could try a circulating fan or something... another idea maybe you could get a blower to blow all the hot air out the top of the door (or do it in reverse and blow cold air in)... never seen a cheap portable air conditioner... but maybe check ebay or craigslist for used ones...

You could remove the closet door, store it flat under a bed so that you can quickly put it back up whenever you want/need to, then buy a $20 door at Lowe's, hang it in the closet opening and you now have a door that you can cut as many holes in as you want.

Then you vent the closet properly!

Good luck with your project!
