well ive decided to go with more quantity of smaller buckets. i will use 14x 1gal buckets per level so 42 total buckets/plants. they will transplant directly to flower room after all clones have rooted and will get 1 week of veg time. then flipped.

heres the latest design and the one that i will be building from. the red fittings are the drain/leveling fittings it is nothing more than a 3/4" barbed tee with a rubber grommet on the bottom of every bucket. the blue fittings/tubing is the 1/2" fill (from pump & res.) it utilizes a 4" header at the top which will feed each level. this will ensure equal flow of nutrients and water to each level. it is 1" from the external pump and the branch lines feeding each level are 1/2" and will plumb to 1 bucket @ each level using a barbed 90ell with a grommet inserted into the bucket. the yellow fittings show the 2"x1" reducing tees that will make up a 2" vertical "gravity draining" header and will tie back into the sumps-reservoirs (basketball goal bases). the cad model have shown shows straight tees but i will be using 2x1 red. tees. @ all three levels and capping the top level. what i have failed to show is the 1/4" bulkhead fitting that will be installed on the overflow (drain bucket) at the very bottom. this will be attached to a 1/4" flexible tubing straight to the sump and will act as the "empty drain" line when the unit is completed the flood cycle. this line needs to be small enough no to drain too fast that the buckets will never flood fully to the overflow line.

each bucket will be lined with a makeshift smart pot type liner using landscaping fabric... this will hold my coco media.

I have had thoughts about using a fish tank canister filter to house a bunch of filter media for good bacteria colonization, but im quite sure the 42 buckets filled with shit will make plenty of surface area good bacteria.... i plan to use the "BIGTOKE" thought process behind this grow... lots of good bacteria to maintain ideal water chemistry and breakdown of nitrates... also will help safeguard my babies from diseases and root bound illnesses. hopefully my knowledge of water chemistry, and aquarium life will help me make this grow something special.

i will be implementing screens around the perimeter to help train plants and support them when they start to chunk up and get heavy. also i will use the ideas ive seen here to keep my plants stunted and pulled at a safe distance from my light source so that i can manipulate them to get better penetration to the leaves i the back.

well started main construction this past weekend... got all my buckets drilled and fitted. built my feed header, built my wardrobe that will house my mums n clones. im taking pics and will post a build log when im done in a couple weeks. i got my 2 stanley blowers which i will be using 1 in the wardrobe attached to a diy scrubber, and one in the closet attached to a diy scrubber. i also got all my DIY cool tubes (hurricane candle holders) which i will be mounting mogul sockets and collars to.

I will be following this very closely. I have a a large walk in closet on the new house my family just obtained and am planning on doing a vertical grow as well. Been looking at the different constructions and am weighing my options. You have done a wonderful job planning (I have a bunch of paper with measurements and sketches on them too :)) and sharing. If you have any pictures of the setup being built that would be amazing.

I plan on doing 12-2000W vertical grow depending on a few different bulb configurations but am definitely bookmarking this thread. Happy growing!

ive also found a pair of 4" carbon scrubbers online to use with my stanley blowers for about 50 bucks each, plus a 6" scrubber with a 500cfm inline fan for 185.00 at this price i dont see a point in making my own scrubbers, lol these are cheaper than it would cost for me to build my own. i will be attaching a 4" carbon scrubber to each stanley blower and place one in my mum/clone cab, and the other will just be to scrub and circulate air within the closet. I will use the 500cfm fan (placed in the attic above the closet) to pull air from the "under the door" Intake manifold i will be making, through the cool tubes. Then into the attic, through the 500cfm fan and pushed through the scrubber. even though the air coming through the cool tubes will be coming from the outside room containing the closet, i plan on pushing this air through a scrubber for piece of mind to make sure if there does happen to be an air leak i wont be exhausting stinky air.

here is my cab. the left side will have 1 shelf midway up and house 4 mums per shelf. the right side is the clone side an will have 2 shelves for a total of 3 levels. i plan on using some simple ice tube trays to make a diy wick style cloner, enough to have about 50 clones or more per shelf. I will be cutting clones about 3 weeks into flower to "monster crop" and get lots of shoots.

I have a 96 watt 6400k power compact hangin vertically on each side. the scrubber will be housed in the top using a stanley blower and a 4" charcoal scrubber bought online for like 50 bucks.

I also got the resevoirs done, the drain plumbed, picked up a new submersible pump instead of the iwaki external, plumbed the fill line to the regulating ball valve...

whats left:
hang fill header
plumb fill line to header
plumb fill header to fill buckets
cover walls in mylar
attach 600's in cool tube unit
hang cool tube
make cool tube inlet manifold
mount ballasts in attic

this is it for the first run. after this i will add the aquaponic system.... prolly a 55-100 gallon fish tank with a submersible pump in the resevoirs pumping water to the tank like a sump. and an overflow draining back to the res. the tank will use a simple hang on back filter for bio filtration... or i might make my own fluidized bed filter with mechanical prefilter.
