I use a cabinet in my house occasionally seeing a sugar ant or two, about to flower just wanna prep to keep out spider mites or anything.... what's good prevention measures? Thanks!
Well unlike ants they really dont travel that far on their own. You can use a physical or chemical barrier on your intakes or any other entry points such as tanglefoot or permethin (sp). The biggest thing you can do is make sure you arent bringing in pests when you tend your plants. Change clothes and shoes, shake out hair, etc. Make sure new plants go into quarantine for a few weeks until you can be sure they are pest free.
Keep your grow area clean. If anything spills in your cab wipe it out, clean it out frequently. If any dead leaves fall off dispose of them immediately. Try to keep your cab closed as tightly as possible. I used to use weather stripping to keep everything all nice and tight. Plug any little holes you can find. Don't bring any questionable plants/clones/etc into your cab. Do not bring anything from outside into your cab. Do all of this and you should be good. Sometimes the inevitable does occur, but keeping everything clean will really help next to not introducing plants/materials from outdoors into your cab. It wouldn't hurt to routinely have your house sprayed for bugs if you can afford it. Just make sure to move your cab where it won't get any chemicals near it if you get your house sprayed. If it was just a couple ants it shouldn't be a problem. If it becomes more than an ant or two then you should definitely nip it in the bud(no pun intended) immediately. Happy growing
