Cloning Made Easy

I seem to be pretty good at cloning
Haven't lost a clone in over 5 years

I know everyone has their own way of doing it, here's mine step by step

Materials:
sharp scissors
Sharpie pen
root dip (brand may vary)
plastic bowl of water
clone chamber
cloning squares

step one - label the cloning square so a to not mix up strains

step two - soak the cloning square in water until saturated

step three - cut your clone at a angle to provide max surface area

(this is the brand they gave me at the grow shop, I have no preference to brand)

step four - dip the cut clone into the rooting solution

step five - push clone into cloning square and put in the clone chamber tray

Repeat steps one - five until clone tray is full

step six - add 1/4 inch of water to the clone chamber

step seven - cover and leave alone for two weeks

step eight - remove the plastic from the squares and pot in soil
Label each pot so as to not mix up strains

nothing but water for the first two week after potting

16 clones cut
16 plants without so much as yellow leaf

from time to time you will get a yellow leaf or two along the way
it's not the end of the world, just snip them off

hope this helps someone who is just learning to clone
or someone who is having trouble cloning

yes I do the same except I use rapid rooter plugs, or peat pucks occasionally.......I will use grodon squares when the rapid rooters are out damnit.it is like 75 miles to the hydro store here.........cloning is really simple and too many people make it way too hard with these involved techniques when it is simply a basic cut dip place and wait.

I might start cloning this weekend...can I get a cheap dome/tray somewhere? I looked in the sunlight supply cat. and the trays were crazy over priced unless they do more than I realize.

what lighttime and intensity do they have in that time?

1/4 inch of water so that through osmosis the squares stay wet for two weeks

as I omitted the unit of measure in my original post, it's fixed now)

a two bulb 40 watt florescent shop light unit available at any hardware store
18 hours on 6 hours off then I use that same closet for vegging them once they are in soil
and I don't have to mess with the timer

I think I paid $6 for mine at a local nursery
I may be a bit spoiled as every nursery in my town
has a indoor grow section and there's a mega grow store in town as well

being a first time cloner don't be shy about asking any questions
a few months from now you will be doing it without even thinking about it

Cloning seems mad easy. The first guide I ever read on cloning really emphasized sterility of the razor blade and even used medical gloves but the person just put it in soil (with gel applied obviously) and let it grow...probably the most basic cloning method ever but I doubt it works that great.

The humidity dome is almost a requisite in the SW though it seems. The only other method I've been considering is Cotez's walmart bubble cloner since I wouldn't need to buy rockwool and I think the roots form a lil faster in water but my budget is tight right now and I could get more clones will less with your method right now.

less than a buck each

additional cloning cheaper because you already have most of the stuff
only thing you need to buy are the squares
and the root gel and that is only about once a year

So I took some cuts a while back, I think its been 2 weeks now and I haven't got roots through the bottom yet but I did pull one of the four out and I could see several very small roots. Hope that wasn't a bad idea to pull it out ;-p

I also did a few toppings and put the toppings in a square just 3-4 days ago and one of those already had 1 baby root--both look pretty depressing though.

By the way I read somewhere on the internet that when you take the cutting you should put it in water immediately because air will get into the stem and kill the cut. Is that true at all? I've been doing it just to be safe, but it seems like the cloning substance would be more useful if the stem wasn't already wet.

this is a good thread. i dont have a heating pad is that gonna be necessary....can i put my tray/done on the flower of my tent? i currently have some ladies in a 400hps i could put them on the floor and the canopy would reduce the light a serious amount. any ideas. trying to make the most of my space

The light may be too intense, but if its at the top of the tent if may be ok. I'd only do a few at first and keep your eye on them every hour or so for the first day to make sure they aren't getting killed from the light.

I haven't had perfect success so far, probably a water issue. I have had an ak47 clone in there for a month now lol...might just transplant it without roots now. Did see a side root on my nl5 topping, yay.

With Fort Collins closing their pot shops Feb 14th
I have become popular with a few of my buddies in search of clones
I gave them clones the first time, the second time I had them cut their own clones
with me watching/teaching them

I may only have two strains (LSD and Dutch Dragon)
but clones coming out of my room are clean. No mites or mildew
and I am giving them away, not charging $15 a clone like the pot shops are

Even better hey are learning to cut their own clones

I think if they had run the pot shops like medical offices
instead of head shops they could have stayed in business
