Cloning Issue

I recently topped my scrog and decided it would be a good time to learn cloning rather than ditching the cuttings. I went out and bought rockwool cubes, a humidity dome, and some rooting hormone. I followed the general directions I found online. I soaked the rockwool cubes in distilled water, then added a bit of Fox Farms big bloom (I think it was big bloom, maybe it was tiger bloom...it's the brownish one) and then ph'd it. I read that a low dose of the nutes in the cubes will help rooting, that's why I put it in. Otherwise I've read that you really just don't mess with the clones and play the waiting game. Here's the situation: Roughly 5 days in probably 3-4 out of 11 clones had browned leaves at the top, they were completely dried out and dead. I chalked it up to bad luck and continued to let them sit. Now we're at day 10 and I'm starting to get some yellowing of some leaves of some of the other un-screwed-up clones. I've been using the pipette squeeze tube from my ph kit to drip water straight distilled water onto the cubes the last few days to keep them from going dry. I've also taken off the humidity dome and taken to pouring straight distilled water in the bottom of the tray so the bottoms of the cubes can stay moist. I guess I was expecting roots by now? Any thoughts, advice, etc?

Also, I'm going on a trip for 3 days over this holiday weekend and won't be around. Will the clones be ok during that time? Should I maybe put the humidity dome back on while I'm gone since I won't be around to drip water the tops of the cubes if need be?

I think you're doing about right. I use peat pellets instead of rock wool but that's unimportant. I always leave a little water in the bottom of the tray the pellets sit in so they never dry out. I have never used any kind of ferts when I clone and have had good success. Somewhat limited light seems to work best and depending on strain it might take 2 weeks + to start seeing roots. Best luck.

Yeah keep it simple man - I have made and used a bubble cloner successfully in the past, but I actually get just-as-good results sticking my cuts straight into soil, and it's way easier too... which is good cos I'm lazy. I just dip them in honey and pop them into moist soil and leave them in the shade for a week (no direct light). I rarely water them as I have high RH - just don't let the soil dry out. After a week I put them in direct light, and a few days later IT'S ON. 11 days seems to be my average to get roots.

Peace

Update:

I came back from my trip and 7 out of 11 had enough roots that I was comfortable enough to transplant into net pots with hydroton. 3 are sitting under the dome a bit longer, 2 have tiny roots, 1 has none at all. The final one I learned a valuable lesson on...I was holding it by the stem rather than the block when trying to peel the exterior of the rockwool cube off, and it tore the plant out of the cube. I'm going to give the 3 in the dome another day or two and if I don't see enough roots to transplant I'll just toss them.

I am currently waiting for the silicone to dry on the inside of the container I'm using as the DWC, I put in some clips to hold down the air stones. I picked up a ton of distilled water yesterday, along with a GH hydro 3-pack for nutes. I figure later today I'll fill the tub and actually get started on my first hydro setup.
