Cloning a flowering plant is it possible?

hey guys please..I need atleast 5 clones to survive..

some of my cloens were taken at day 14..some at day 21...so theyr between one week old and a few days old..so far theyr nice and green, just no roots..I cant build a bubbler..so my setup is the only way I can do it..

Iv been spraying them daily with liquid karma..should i stop spraying daily??...what can i do to ensure atleast some root..?...

most dont even have pistils on them..they bascially look like normal clones...some have maybe 3-5 pistils..

is there any tips i can do to ensure atleast some root?

Hey guys..so I THINK I built a bubbler..first one..its EXTREMLY ghetto..heres what I did..

1.Took my "cake" tray, cleaned it..boiled my airstone...poured cold tap water and superthrive in the "cake" tray

2.Setup airstone

3.Put aluminum foil as top, poke holes

4.Get all the clones that were in the cups of water, cut them again while udner water, dip into rooting powder..then insert into bubbler

5.All the clone's stems were well udner water..is that how it goes..where are the stems suppoed to reach??...

I also put hydrogen peroxide in it...please help..

Thats hi tec compared to some of my bodges , should work fine , but i would make a few comments based on experience with flowering clones , and many side by side comparisons with bubblers over the years.

Superthrive has proved of no help to me , and the sugars it contains promote mould in a bubbler , chlorinated tapwater or rainwater is fine , adjust pH to 6 and keep it below 7 , rooting powders are often quite alkaline and clones root less well at higher than 7 pH.

Canna stems are not suceptible to embolisms , i take clones with scissors and they root 100% even if left lying around for ten minutes and drying out before they hit the bubbler.

The most important factor is the temperature of the water , aim for mid 70,s , roots faster at 80 but much higher risk of rot , if it ever reaches 90 they litteraly cook , peroxide helps a lot , a little every day as it dissipates fast .

I use a heated propagator without the dome , a brewers heating pad or some random piece of electrical equipment worked just as well .

Would not use a humidity dome unless you live in an arid desert , they root faster without one and much less chance of mould.

Light levels are best kept low , a single 23 watt cfl would be plenty for your bubbler , or overspill from a veg area , no difference seen between 18/6 and 24/0 light hours.

By observation , the clones that have their tips in the actual bubble zone show roots a little earlier , but not worth the risk of them drying out as water level falls , they all root fine with one or two nodes underwater.

Everone has their own variation that works for them , these settings work reliably for me in seven days on all canna types and fast on a multitude of ornamentals .

Wow..thank foomar..thanks alot man..i have one quick question..

i have the cloens inside my flwoer room..since its the only room whose temps i can control..rest of the house is 85+...inside the flower room its 75f...can they root fine under 12/12?>.will it stress them..will they keep flowering and NOT root??

also, will all these changes in lighth cycles make them hermie??...is it fine to root under 12/12..then reveg them under 24/0 once they have roots??

please i need them to survive..thanks again foomar

They will root fine in 12/12 , but will take longer to reveg compared to putting them in vegging hours straight away , the effect is greater the further into flower they are , yours should be fine as they are not long in.

The room temp may be 75f , but would suspect the water temp could be lower , would check with thermometer , used a similar size container for years sat on top of an ADSL modem or a freeview box , both gave off enougth heat to keep the water just right , top of my ancient PC works too.

The difference in rooting time between 70f and 75f is considerable , worth fiddling around a bit to get it right and constant , sounds like overkill for a few cuts but a larger 10 litre bubbler is much easier to maintain temps with useing a low wattage thermostatic aquarium heater or heating pad , both quite cheap and longlived.

They might throw the odd male flower , pretty much everything does it in the reveg if taken later , they will be as stable as the mother was when ready.

you were lazy

Used to pop 20 seed , take clones of each one , repot twice and end up keeping just 2 or 3 , wasted space and effort.
Now i just clone a few of them in late flower when i can see whats worth saveing , practical and lazy.

Foomar..do you hae experience rooting udner 12/12?..how long will it take to show roots, then to reveg..aproximately?

Also, what temp is best for the water..70 or 75?....and last, lets say I had some clones for 24/0 for a week..some a few days..will putting them into 12/12 AGAIN..stress them int hermie?..

or does it not matter once theyr established and udner vegging period for a while??....how long to show roots?

So a few of my clones have roots...they have quite a bit...my question is,when do I remove from the bubler and into the pots??...as soon as they root..do I let the roots keep growing??..

What do I do next?

So today,I removed 3 clones from the bubbler, and placed into coco.Around ~5 have rooted, and I will transplant the rest in a few days.

I have them in the flower room until they get more established, then theyll go into 24/0.

So yes, they WILL root, and in a bubbler, they will root FAST.

I got roots in ~8 days.Today is day 10,and 3 have already been transplanted.

Does any body use a mother that was cut from a flowering plant?

Is there a risk that this kind of mother will produce lower quality clones?

Because i have a phenotype that i didnt save, but now at the end of flowering I can see that the phenotype is so heavy yielding and I dont want to loose it.

I have enough time to wait for the cut to revege and grow....

This run I used all clones from plants about 2-3 weeks into flower, rooted them out in an EZ Cloner and 28/30 took in 2 weeks flat. They are incredibly branchy and I can tell they will be huge. A couple of them took awhile to start growing normally, they were shooting out giant 1 or 3 leaf fan style leaves, but the ,majority of the cuts are taking off like wild fire! Def do it

Thanks coldcanna

I dont know If what you are doing is the same what I am planning to do. I want to use the cuts from the flowering plant as a longterm mother without having to fear that the clones (hundreds) I am going to take from this mother will be of lower quality because the mother was originally a cut from a flowering plant....

No it would never affect the quality but it definitely may affect quantity I've been messing around for some time because I'm lucky. It all really depends on how many pistils are present when go you into 12/12.Pistilly cuts finish faster I like the more "vegetative" lets to get a larger yield otherwise it was all was just another damn close encounterfOURtH

I don't think the quality of the mother and her future cuts will be affected at all. For your first cutting of the flowering plants right now you'll prob wanna take a dozen or so, I've noticed that a couple of my flowering clones never reverted to growing normally and just look all strange. The majority of the cuts look amazing and if anything they would make BETTER mothers because clones from flowering plants tend to be much more bushy and would produce more clone sights for your future grows. Hope this helps, good luck brotha

Thanks a lot coldcanna and floridian.....

@floridian: I opened thisthread where i was trying to get information about yiel-affection when growing cuts with to many pistils.... So you clearly say that yield is definetly affected when working with clones with to many pistils?

And what is encounterfourth? Sorry, but english is not my first language...

Thanks bros
