BlazeTheSky is right about killing you. my pops died at 40 from a heart attack after smoking 1-2 packs a day. he was a great guy and deserves to still be around. at least if you quit, quit for your family. it is so hard to lose someone so close to you and not have them around anymore. learn from yours/others mistakes and don't repeat them. these important life lessons should help guide us through life.

imo, cold turkey works the best. many people i know went cold turkey and never went back. life insurance will get much more picky in the future and stop covering high risk individuals.

most people tend to say that they want to quit, but never do anything about it until it is too late. weigh the pros and the cons and you will find out how much of a difference there is. help and support is available for the less self-disciplined.

Mother is at end-stage emphysema and cannot hardly even get out of bed anymore because she is so out of breath.....and also she feels a lot of internal pain due to the rib-cage which is expanding around the dead lung tissue......she doesn't have long to live, but her biggest regret in life is starting smoking tobacco......

Tobacco-smoking has absolutely ruined her health, 3 heart-attacks and terrible emphysema.....now she can't work and will probably lose her house to go into a hospice, but i am taking care of her as best i can.....

Maybe someone somewhere will read this and i will have made a difference.....

:ying: kind regards from guineapig :ying:

best wishes to your mother guineapig... take care of her and spend as much time with her as you can. you never realize how much someone means to you until they are gone.

my friend's mom smokes and she's had a stroke or two and keeps smoking. so sad...

please read our posts and hopefully it will make a difference.

Hello all,

Its been 5 years for me now since I quit cigerettes. Quit cold turkey. When I was taking a leak and coughed up some phlygm (sp) and there was blood spots mixed amoung the brown silmy nasty spit I knew it was time to quit.

I smoked for 27 years.

My lungs are soo much improved...no whizzing, coughing (except on bong hits) I can breath much better.

Good luck and remember...once you start having "just one", race is lost and you have to start over again.

As for pointers...change your habits...like when you are done with dinner and you would normally fire one up...go to the bathroom and brush your teeth.

Sitting watching the TV and you have a sudden craving, get up and go wash your face.

It may sound silly but if you replace your bad habits with good ones, the pain is less.

I started to ride my handcycle again to help with the cravings.

Do not hang with your smoking friends, just by being around others that smoke wears on your self control. Just for a while till you get on top...3 weeks is about how long it took me to get on top of my adiction. Your milage may vary.

BTW, you can smell smokers from 3 feet away, heavy smokers from across the room. And to think I used to be part of that nasty business.

Best wishes for you and yours GP.

Great to see how us weed heads pity the poor cigarette smokers. Too right aswell..

Guineapig- sorry to hear about your mother. I know about emphysema- my grandmother had it and one of the causes is genetic. They can test now to see if you have the gene- or how much of the gene you have. 40 of my cousins and I got tested and 2 of us tested positive-one of whom was me.

google 'alpha 1 anti-trypsin deficiency' and you'll see how smoking causes emphysema. Maybe you should get a test in case you might have a predisposition to it.

Needless to say I am vaporising everything from now on.

**** ciggerates....kills more people then any drug besides ciggerates combined and ciggerates still have the highest death rate....If I had kids i'd give them heroein before i'd ever let them smoke ciggerates.

my friend had his lungs scraped 2 times from smoking 2-3 packs a day when he had problems at home...believe it or not they showed him the jar of tar and he asked if he could have it for something to smoke on later

2nd day cig free...Altho a little chewing tobacco has eased my nicotine cravings

I'm 38 yrs old...Been smoking regularly since prob 15...I used to be very athletic in HS and until about age 25 so the smoking never bothered me much...But since my sports stopped some 12 yrs ago I've definatley notice a difference in my lung capacity and endurance

So as of NYEve I AM DONE...If I can do it anyone can

I remember an interview of Ozzy where the reporter asked what was the hardest addicition he ever kicked...My first guess would be heroin or coke, right? NOPE, he stated that cigs/nicotine was harder to kick than any drug he ever got hooked on...Anyone who knows of Ozzy's battles with drugs alcohol, ect would have to say it HE says its was that hard, odds are it IS that hard

KEEP UP THE BATTLE FOLKS...I'M RIGHT HERE I THE TRENCHES WITH YOU :muahaha:

I stopped smoking after an on and off relationship with tobacco a while back. My lungs couldn't be happier and my overall health seems to have improved.

One thing that is useful is to just toke whenever you're craving a cigarette, I bet you it'll work ;)

It's been 6 weeks since I went cold turkey. If I can do it, ya'll can. I smoked 1-2 packs a day for about 10 years. The first week is the hardest, just got to get up a do something else when you have a craving, as they wont last more than 5-10 minutes. I did push-ups and sit-ups......I havent had a pills/alchy either in 6 weeks. I have been to quite a few bars since then with no problems, it's just funny to ask for a Dr. Pepper instead of crown and coke and not have a pack of cigs to reach for but thats life.

But I have been making/eating the shit out of some killer brownies!! :joint:

I never smoked cigs but I did work in a busy NYC bar for about 8 years so I have to consider that I was 2nd hand smoking 10 hours a night 5-6 nights a week, I'd go home just reeking of that smell. I'm biased hard against smoking cigs & I don't feel a whole lot of compassion to those that choose to poison themselves & others with 2nd hand smoke. Every time I see someone light up I think to myself why do they bother? No equitable return on continued abuse of the body....... I quit cocaine (freebasing habit) almost 20 years ago because it was killing me....... just as tobacco kills slowly, day by day.

I really congratulate those who've quit & maintained quitting.

^ looks like you've got your head straight now. foilie habit is pretty bad because i know a guy who has a huge problem with it and believe me, it shows. coke was overrated and that stuff gets cut with mystery items like some tobacco companies do. grow your own and you know what goes into it!
