hey chester, welcome! looks like a great setup!

had you checked your run-off ph in the peat mix? i'm having the same problem, although my mix is 2p peat, 1p perlite, 1p vermiculite. i'm pretty sure it's a ph problem. peat gets acidic; apparently faster than i thought! i'm trying with 1 tbsp dolomite lime/gallon on the next round.

i hope the MG soil works for you... might be too hot nutrients-wise this early in the plant's life.

good luck with the temps... if you go with sucking cab air in your cooltube, remember you'll have to run that through a carbon filter too when odors start getting strong.

ps: it's usually frowned upon to include pics hosted outside of ICMAG due to security issues. please try to upload your photos to ICMAG and update your other posts. it's possible you won't be able to upload photos while you have under 50 posts though. in which case, post away until you reach 50! check out the toker's den forum for lots of opportunities to post, like the perpetual word association, etc.

Thanks for stoppin by guys.

I will check pH runoff later today. I only added a minuscule amount of the MG organic cause I had some bad experiences with some of their soils when used in what I considered to be a reasonable amount. Hopefully it just holds some water for the little guys.

Pics and updates later tonight. Hold onto your hats :bandit:

Cheers

Not even a cool sombrero???

Well heres the update.. They've started growing and I think they like the organic MG I threw into their soil mix. Right now they get 20mL of water every morning (pH around 6.7). I moved the one that was having problems with the yellowing and another little dude underneath the 250 HPS. Right now they are about 4 feet away and seem to be loving it.

Just remind any of those who happen to have just wandered in here, this is a New purple power (nirvana) fem crossed with a hashberry (mandala) male this year during my round in the great outdoors.

Onto the pics!

Numero 1 (under HPS, had the yellowing problem)

Numero 2 (also under the HPS)

Numero 3 (under 2 23w CFL's atm)

And Numero 4 (under 2 23w CFL's atm)

Tis all for now.

Cheers :lurk:

Edit: Got the gallery to work, so pics are no longer from an outside server...

Cool man I use hps to grow out my seeds as well. That light should kick ass and you should see fast results. I never got into the whole MH thing, I still have one sitting on the floor not in use for a long time. Things are startin to pick up for ya. Keep it green.

Hey what soil are you using like the cab too

Originally I just had the little fellows in roughly 65% peat moss and 35% perlite, but my oldest started showing some yellowing and little to no growth. So I threw in a pinch maybe 15% miracle gro organic choice and that seems to have perked them up a little. I fear I might have even put a little too much MG in cause I see the tinyest bit of yellow on the end of the leaves.

Eh, whatcha gonna do sometimes.

Thanks for stopping by guys

Cheers.

watch for your ph with peat. it's very acidic! if the ph goes too low, growth will stop, leaves will yellow, etc.

i love peat, but the only way i can use it is with pro-mix, which has lime for ph. even then i'll add some more dolomite lime. i'm sure you can make your own pro-mix, although so far with the little experimentation i've done i haven't been successful. i think the dolomite lime takes a while to work, and i haven't experimented enough to figure out what that time is. i'm not too motivated to spend much time on it when pro-mix works so well and doesn't cost much more...

I wish I could check the pH now. My pen crapped out on me the other day and I've just been winging it. Next chance I get, I'll be checking the runoff. Thanks for the tip.

Cheers

Another update. Unfortunately I have been busy and missed a day of watering and still haven't gotten anything to measure that damn pH. :bashhead:

Eh, here they are in all their glory. There's still some slight yellowing on lower leaves and some has started to turn brown. Even with only a handful of that MG organic shit, it still has an adverse effect.

Numero 3

Numero 4

Cheers.

I couldn't help but test my luck a little. I topped two of them and re potted two also. Pretty sure I stressed the hell out of the two I topped cause I haven't seen much of anything from either of them in the last few days, aside from a few more yellow spots on the bottom leaves. One of the plants I re potted and didn't top has taken off and is looking nice a green. I actually moved her into my veg cab and believe it or not, I think she likes it a lot more than the HPS. As the experimenter I am, I'll probably pop one of the topped plants in there to see if that helps at all.

Unfortunately my lazy as is just now about to go and get a new pH tester. :bashhead: I've been swamped with school and can't help but let one take priority ya know. So I've been watering with some water that I am almost positive has a pH above 7, but its either that or no water at all.

I ended up drilling another 4" hole in the side of my flower cab for hopefully a little better shot at temp control. So much for that light proof ness now. I had the crazy idea that they might be suffering from a lack of C02 being stuck in that damn box all day.

Well here they are.

Numero 1 (the best looking, not topped, re potted, under 2 23w CFLS and some 20 W tube flouros.)

Numero 2 (topped, re potted, starting to yellow, little to no growth in the past few days.)

Numero 3 (topped, yellowing has increased slightly, fan leaves are still growing larger, little bit of secondary growth)

Numero 4 ( Not topped, still growing with some yellowing but having a hard time. )

And here's a group shot. You can see how much better the first one looks than all the rest. DAmn you brown thumb damn you!

I'll be back later with a pH runoff and the pH of the water that I've been feeding them. I'll probably give them a nice flush, seeing how that probably won't do any more damage than they've already undergone.

Cheers.

DA DA DAAAAA! drum roll please, as the pH results are in!

Well I had been watering with some nasty tap water that sat at ......

7.6! Ouch.

And for the runoff...
I didn't have access to a pH meter, so I made this cool little chart and I was going to test the runoff and whatnot only to realize that it didn't work whatsoever. I bought one of the liquid pH test kits. Collected runoff from my first guy and went to test it and realized the water wasn't clear. Did it anyways and the nasty yellow dirt water definitely over powered the pH test. So I went ahead and flushed all three plants with water 2x the volume of their containers and now they are back in their closet.

Hopefully they like the flush and bounce back a little. Only time will tell

And if anyone knew of a good pH meter for a reasonable price, that would just be lovely...

Cheers.

Yeah my water ph is around the same as yours. I notice when i mix my ferts in though the water balances out to around 6.7. I use a hanna meter and my buddy lets me swap them out at his hydro store for free whenever it gets messed up. It cost me around sixty bucks and works great. What is your soils ph?

Wish I could tell you. I had to buy a liquid test pH deal and when I collected my runoff water, it was too yellow/brownish to test with the liquid shit. It could still be way to low and I would never know.

Checking out the hanna meter right now...

Cheers and thanks for the info.

Edit:::
Possibly something like THIS???

Hey man if you live near a home depot they sell soil ph moisture and light meter all rolled up into one. They are like eight bucks.

Well apparently there has been a hydro shop within 20 minutes of me for the last few years and I've known nothing about it!! I was talking to a buddy of mine tonight and he made it sound like common knowledge.

So I made my way to the hydro shop and ended up splurging a little bit...

Picked up a hanna grochek pH meter. Now this thing has a year warranty so i'll be damned if it dies on me now! At least that's what I thought... I take it home, and go to turn the damn thing on, and it doesn't turn on. So I decide to tinker a little with it. Pull out the batteries, put them back in, and it works. So I dip it in some calibration solution, 7.01, and get an infinite reading. **** this shit, I call up the guy at the store and tell him, and he says no worries, come back tomorrow and you can have a new one. Needless to say, I'm a little scared...

I also picked up some happy frog and earth juice nutes. They little uns will be re potted as soon as the soil they are in now dries out from the flushing. Thankfully, they look better already. The leaves have perked up and I can already seen a tiny bit of secondary growth coming from the topped plants. :jump:

All in all the day turned out well, minus the pH meter troubles, but all should be well by tomorrow. Pics when the transplant goes down.
