Chem 4, Chem 4 OG, Larry OG, Cookies

Yes...Chem 4 is a worthy of a spot in the garden.

Here are a couple of pictures of from day 11 of flower. The ipad sucks for pictures...I'll try to take some from my phone of the Hermie GSC and the day 14 flower. With the hermie GSC removed that leaves me with 8 PGSC and one GSC...the GSC is short and bushy...the GSCs seem to be temperamental.

Here are pictures of the Hermie and the girls on Day 14 Flower. Next set of pictures I'll turn off the HPS and take some pics.

The last two are GSC...one bushy and thick and the other tall and skinny hermy. I won't post any more pics under HPS..that is annoying and almost useless for comparison. Interestingly I don't see any balls with hairs coming out of them...just balls or flowers...I might let this one pollenate itself just to see what comes of the seeds...I like the pheno... it would rock for a short SOG Grow...and it would be nice to have a stash of Girl Scout Cookie seeds for a rainy day even if they have a hermie trait...will just have to watch them...transporting clones sucks...transporting seeds is easy.....just need to figure out how to protect the girls...I think I'll reveg the hermie and flower it later...wish I had a way to keep it under the same lights and isolated.

Here is my day 16 flower...before defoliated...I am leaving one plan foliated as a test to compare leaving all leaves on and tucking...or taking all leaves off and defoliating (my preferred way...I think it yields more with a light Scrogging and it reduces chances for problems with leaves...pests and PM...I like to get close to each plant a couple times during flower to make sure I don't have any hermies show up to the party.)

Looking good Biggie. Looks like a different pheno than the GSC we are rocking. I'm interested to see how that defoliation test works out! Just keep your eyes out for PM, but you know that already..

Thanks for following the grow playa

These are all platinum cookies except the one GSC...very indica leaning bush...you can kind of make out the one plant sitting on a container...that's the GSC...had a friend reconfirm that it's GSC...but it sure does look bushy..the rest are Platinum Cookies.

I'm suspicious of the pheno difference myself...it's doing the early stack like GSC and it has first frost on buds today at day 17...I'm hoping this is the "cherry" leaning pheno that was discussed earlier...although as I understand it Cherry Pie is a sibling and not a parent.

Pics from yesterday after day 16 defoliation coming in a few minutes...just a note...defoliation the way I do it has to start in veg..don't just remove all of the leaves unless the girls are trained...has to do with keeping the stem green so that photosynthesis can occur through the stems and not just leaves...

PM doesn't pose as much of a problem this way since air gets all throughout the plant...when you see these pics you'll know what I mean...as you will see, I go all Charlie Brown Chistmas on the girls.

Defoliated...this looks shocking but I see much more end weight of top bud this way...much less trim for hash though.

Day 16 Defoliation. Not for everyone....I do this all through veg...then leave them be for two weeks of 12/12...and then take clones and defoliate during third week...and again during 6th week right before flush. Another point is that I take clones during third week of flower and reveg them...I go light on N the feeding before the defoliation/cloning and then feed with a bit extra N right after the defoliation and I bump up the sugars/big bud and add a worm casting tea to stimulate roots...so I see a light green nitrogen deficiency the two days after the defoliation. Warning...doing this without the right preparation will screw your grow.

-On a side note, IME Clones always grow so much better after the reveg when taken from flower...much bushier and better for my scrog. Draw backs are waiting for reveg and dealing with some weird looking clones for a week or two. This is just my opinion...but if you haven't tried it I'd suggest it.

Here is the baseline plant that a friend asked I keep foliated to see the difference in weight...notice the stem is a dark purple and no longer green...it has been covered since early veg and so isn't doing much photosynthesis any more...defoliating now would severely stunt her growth as the stem is no longer herbasceous/green but now moving in the woody direction in order to support weight and now isn't efficient at performing photosynthesis....if I defoliated now she would have to revert stem to green or wait for leaves to grow...its not the leaves that are the key...its having something on the plan that can perform photosynthesis...with marijuana that can be the stem instead of the leaves...natural plant protection from herbivores. Bud/Flower growth is vigorous even without leaves as long as there is a source of photosynthesis.

I don't want to hijack mdclone's journal with these discussions on cloning and defoliation...there are many threads on this stuff so check threads if questions please. This is just to show a parallel grow with different techniques...not to debate or dive into details.

We are keeping our pruning pretty extensive, but we aren't removing quite as much as you, I am interested to see how the two differing pruning methods will result. Please keep us posted on this grow and don't feel like your hijacking, its all knowledge... and knowledge is power!

Day 29 UPDATE:

Everyone is looking good! Things are starting to stink around here.. The Cookies are definitely the most finicky to deal with stresses (heat and nutes) but they are stacking the hardest so far. Everyone is coming right along.

thanks cody.

the chem og's are very hearty.
the girl scout cookies were the first to start frosting up.
the larrys were the first to start stinking, and probably have the more fragrant smell so far.

some of our cookies are looking great but some are looking a bit stressed and we couldn't figure out what it was but after doing some searching I found an interesting quote about her which makes a lot of sense in our situation:

"as far as I can gather she doesn't like food or too much light, and she gets frosted hella early"

we have the lights right on her, and are feeding ~1200 ppms. we reduced the ppms after noticing she had some leafs that werent looking so well.

The chems and larrys are chugging right along though!
If anybody has any tips of dialing any of these ladies down I'd love to hear details.

What up Mdclone? Your grow is coming along nicely! I mentioned earlier that I just acquired the sour d from a friend who got it from harborside. Well, I was misinformed about a mislabeling. Its actually Grandpa Larry Og from Medical Organics Nursery but still from Haborside. Three and half weeks in and she looks and smells fantastic. How are your Chem ibl starts coming along?

Whats up pimp ;) Things are going well, thanks. Yeah I have to say, despite the bad things I heard of HHC, I am happy so far. The true test will come in the smoke though. I wouldn't be surprised if one or two of the strains we are running aren't the elites we thought they were, but we are thinking the cookie cut is real and the larry seems legit. (I am not 100% on the validity of the cookie cut but I read something something about a slightly mutated leaf and that's what she's showing).

Were you able to find any information on the Grandpa Larry OG? Definitely interested to see how that turns out. We are rolling about at the same pace, I hear the sours should go for 70 days.

We haven't cracked the sour ibls yet, but we cracked some querkle on a random whim. I don't think I knew too much about it but now I am hearing good things. holla back playa ;)

All the info is here http://www.medicinalorganic.com/index.htm

At the moment Berkeley Patients group has two sour diesels and three different gsc. I was thinking about getting one of each and then keeping the best of each strain. I've never gotten clones from a club. I'm wondering if a sns 203 root dip, neem spray, and 24 hour quarantine would be enough the fend off an mites or root aphids that might come with the clones....who knows?

I've run more tga gear than anything, but not the querkle. You will not be disappointed, but might not find a keeper as far as AAA+ is concerned. Good luck with those too!

@ Epiphyte we are running the Querkle just to see if we can make some pretty crosses add some color and hopefully some aroma. The querkle's are looking pretty uniform which was a surprise as we heard that there is typically a broad swing in TGA genetics from seed. Everything is looking very Indica dominant. We started another thread with our Querkle seeds I lost my cord to connect my phone to my computer as soon as I get a new one Ill post some pics of everything...

Thanks for continuing to follow our grow!
