cheaply made stuff?

My dad ran a shop with his war buddy back in the sixties. Fixed toasters and blenders
and other small appliances. Two guys made a living at it for a few years, couldn't do
that these days with the snooty attitude and cost benefit low end.

When did it become bad taste to fix something and keep it for a few years?

sweet radio shack fascinated me as a kid. so didn't the sears catalog. the last pad I lived in in mass was sold by sears robuck co. yep sears sold houses once lol

Cambodia is definitely going to go factory...friend of mine was just out in Siem Reap and the changes in the last decade have been immense. Our kids (or grandkids) are going to be laughing at cheap Cambodian crap pretty soon.

That's funny. I bought the receiver, the turntable & the speakers that are on the cover of the 1972 catalog. My mom went through the roof - the receiver was $300 then. I've still got it, and it still sounds pretty damn good, it powers my garage stereo system.

When did it become bad taste to fix something and keep it for a few years?

it is even made difficult/impossible to fix things by design. parts that are glued together so you can't take them apart to repair, etc.
