Cheap LED light to start seedlings?

KPT

Hey y'all, looking for a cheap led light that will let me start my plants indoors, doesn't need to be anything big since they'll be there for a week or 2 max. been looking at these led lamps that give me either 18 or 45 watts, full spectrum of light, timer and all that, question is, will that be enough? or should I look into something more powerfull? cheers

If you want to start 4-16 plants you need to illuminate an area of 40x40 up to 60x60cm or even 80x80cm, for which you need something like 100w up to 150w leds.
I think something like Mars ts600 or ts1000 would be perfect for such a task.
Or you could use regular household leds if you need to spend less and have skills to build a simple fixture.

Cheers

I'll only have like 3 lil seedlings so I'm hoping that the 45 watt I'm gonna get will be enough. cheers!

3 seedlings for 2 weeks max? If we are talking about the space of a dinner plate, The $5 lamp above your head is ample. Perhaps a desk lamp will fit your installation needs. It's called a GLS in the UK, or SIL in the states. E27 or B22 base things, that your house is likely full of. You want the old 100w equivalent, often stated as 1521 lumen. Power use is anywhere from 9.5 - 18w depending on the tech used. A Philips 13w 1521 lumen is common.
People use 2 or 3 per foot, to flower. One is plenty for your needs. Almost zero expenditure.

Some brand screw in leds as others said might be cheaper and better than some cheap grow lights from aliexpress.

If you need it for just three small plants then do as f-e said, the screw in leds are the best option for micro veg chambers, you can combine spectrums and get out more light than with a cheap led from amazon.
I use 3x 15w home leds for starting up to 20 plants in a 25x30cm space.

Cheers

Wondering if something like this would do the job? V cheap piece of kit, available from building supply stores.

For sure. I vegged under regular use daylight leds with great sucess in the past. Even old T8's did the job, so I don't see why not, if price is right.

or, in case you don´t find the right LEDs you can also try CFLs . btw I´d go for higher wattage if possible :)

Quite overwhelming vote for household lamps, but sure, why not. 3000 lumen there, and probably has a plug on it.

The 45w grow light raises concerns. It's probably less suitable than the domestic options available. It might not even be the right colour.

says it has the whole color spectrum, from like 460nm to 760. not really an option for me to go installing bulbs and stuff and this seems way easier

would this really be that much better than the 45 watt lamp, seems like a whole lot more work for nothing

It sounds like the advertising of a purple light seller.

Couple of weeks though... It will work.

I root with purple myself. Not the best choice, but seemed a good idea in the past

not necessarily purple, ill post a pic below lmk how it looks.
but what would be the best in my scenario otherwise? only need em in there for 2 weeks, could probably put one of those e27 lamps in if that really works but I thought a red/blue lamp would be way better, more watts as well?

Do you have a spare 45w USB charger? That's quite a beast to be finding spares in the draw.

It's about as expected to be honest. Do you have nothing like this

alright yeh I see that was going nowhere haha mybad, I looked for those e27 bulbs you were talking about and found a phillips one, 17 watt gives off 2400 lumens, 6500 kelvin, will that be any good? and would more lumen be better or overkill?
