Cheap heat for small room at night?

I love winter because when it's cold you can just add another light...but I have lights on during the evening and early morning, seems like you have it reversed. I've used dehueys in the past with good success, killing two birds with one stone...that may be a good bet.

exactly.. in winter.. an extra light or 2.. does the trick for lights on.. run those lights at night the coldest part of the day.. and then if you got other rooms running.. have an intake that brings the heat from the ballasts into the room while lights out.. is how we do it.. also. environmental controller hooked up to a exhaust fan.. and then hooked up to the ballast heat intake.. works like a charm.. built a box to house the ballast.. in summer we exhaust that heat.. in winter we use that heat ... gotta build a new box soon.. this box is getting too small for what im using..

along with what was mentioned..may I suggest a seeding heat mat..wires ect...heating the rootzone and keeping it warm works wonders in low temps...whats cheap tho..think I paid 200$ to do a 4x4 with mats

I meant cheap as in the amount of power it consumes. I don't care what the equipment costs to buy (within reason anyway), just that it won't cost a fortune in electric bills...
I've been wanting to look into those heating cables for the root zone. I do have a small heating mat in there but it's only big enough to fit a couple pots on. I am gonna have to go get some of those heating cables for the floor. Or maybe a bigger heating pad. I just seen they have them in 4' size! Those concrete floors are killers in the cold...

That's a real good idea to run the heat from the hoods into there!

I like the foot warmer idea too!

Thanks again everyone I really appreciate it.

I have used heating mats as mentioned and as well being into herptoculture I found ceramic heat emitters to do the trick as well , they come in many watts and sizes and are designed to keep a small area warm . It is best to have a rheostat though from my experiences as they do get a bit hot , same goes for the seedling mats .

Heatmats designed for terrariums are splash proof, they just cant be submerged in water, heat mats only warm up the pots tho and don't heat up the air.

Yeah I know. I have 2 plants sitting on the heat mat and it has made quite a noticeable difference.

Anyone have any suggestions on which heat mat to get? I want to get a bigger one - like the 20x40 or 22x44 or 21x48 inch (something around there). I have seen them as long as 10 feet though! Some say a thermostat is needed. Others say they are set at 72 degrees already.
I have never used one besides the small seedling tray heat mats, so any help would be greatly appreciated...

Lots of stuff out there, if in doubt keep you plants of the hard floor,
I have used fish tank heaters (25w-100w)back in the far east,
good for large grows of 10us gallons and up,
or the heater cables,
strapped around kiddie pools and smaller,

the best yet""

spray a 100w bulb green
use heat proof engine paint
and use to heat your 4'x5' family closet

The amount of heat produced is directly proportional to the amount of electricity used, always. The least expensive to run options involve preventing heat transfer from the space to the floor.

If you are just popping seeds or starting clones, an electric seed starter warming mat should be enough. I keep a few mothers in the basement bathroom (which I never use) and that works good enough for that.

^^THAT!^^

If one will not be enough try a couple larger ones hooked to a starting mat thermostat.

These things are fairly low powered as well so will not draw a bunch of electricity.
