lol you kids...

like there REALLY NEEDS to be another way to "rig" up a grow. nothing wrong with regular pots. YOU just dont know how to use them.

no offence. i just think traditional methods are better then alot of these 'new' methods for growing. the only good thing about thoes pots is how cheap they are(for the size. 100/200gallon).

not even %1 yield gain...hahaha.

there is some great data out on smart pots, non mj of course. think it was first used for hard to grow trees and also cloning certain evergreens? nothing wrong with trying new stuff......i love the ideas.

"traditional methods eh?" Wow, I didn't know anyone was using clay pots vertical reflectors and Miracle-Gro any more. No offence.
My friends have reported faster, bigger yields from air-pruning pots, and a quite bit more than 1% as well. Simply because the roots are so much healthier. I can personally tell you I've seen the root balls and they really are a different class. I mean, that alone was enough to convince me to try some kind of air-pot type thing.
All the commercial garden centres are changing over to them because they can grow the same size plant in half the size of pot, and it will stay healthy for much longer. I'll bet none of them ever considered changing over because it would be new and cool to try something different.
I hope (and again, no offence) that all of them AREN'T deluded, and that you're wrong. Especially where you state that the people participating in this thread don't know how to use a flower pot.

still use old krusty buckets from ten 365s ago... once spend all day drilling a hundred holes per bucket, they dont get thrown away... put holes where you want them. in kbs, is lower 1/3-1/2 of bucket...

That's a great idea too! Why stop at just drilling the bottom? Thanks for that.
Sorry, what is kbs?

I'm guessing that KBS is Krusty BucketS.

So, to translate, if you're making Krusty Buckets, you want to put lots of holes in the lower 1/3 to 1/2 of the bucket.

Mistress, please punish me if I got that wrong.

"my friend reported bigger yields"

that can be AND OFTIN IS reported about EVERYTHING....

from humic acid to seaweed extract.

"30%" increase from bloom trigger
"10%" increase from humic
"20-40%" from co2
"50%" with hydro
"40%" increase with hygrozyme
"200%" increase with mycorizzal
:dueling:

every damn label on every bottle at a hydro store says 'increase yields'

so the standard maryjane plant yields what???
2 or 3 grams? how about all them cartels in the forest with miracle gro, polluted water, and crap for soil pullin 1000's of pounds??

as i stated "smart pots" wont give a damn bit of yield increase.
not on mary-jane.

i use air-pruneing on my roots in rockwool. that part i aint talkin' no shit on.
"roots = buds":joint:

not...

"products you buy for your plant = buds":yoinks:

the smart pot is fine, its good, and very fairly priced, just dont spill bullshit about extra yield.

like thoes neglectec salvia are going to give extra yield because of the home-made pot... hahaha its just a grow container. they'll recover just fine though.

sorry to have to be such a dick. in sick and fucking tired of every "new thing" having "extrordinary yields". . . . its just a felt pot. wake the fuck up people.

"my friend reported bigger yields"

Well, yes. My friends. NOT a label or an anonymous post. "People I am associated with." Do YOU trust your friends? I have held the roots in my hands, you know? Friends. Google it.

Agreed. But none of that is even remotely relevant to what we are discussing.
What we (not you, but everyone else in this thread) Are interested in is air pots' propensity to make better root balls than standard pots, which make healthier plants.
so the standard maryjane plant yields what???
2 or 3 grams?
What the hell is the standard plant?
how about all them cartels in the forest with miracle gro, polluted water, and crap for soil pullin 1000's of pounds??
What does an outdoor grow have to do with this?

as i stated "smart pots" wont give a damn bit of yield increase.
not on mary-jane.
So, you used Smart-pots and they didn't work? Oh, sorry, I didn't get that you had first hand experience with them.
i use air-pruneing on my roots in rockwool. that part i aint talkin' no shit on.
"roots = buds":joint:
OH! So now roots equal buds. Imagine our surprise. A pot that made better roots wouldn't be worth considering then.
not...

"products you buy for your plant = buds":yoinks:

But nobody in this thread has been doing that. All we're discussing is how to make homemade smart pots. You see, WE think healthier bigger roots = buds. Where have I read that before?

Yes. It is unfortunate that you have to be such a dick. But there you go.

i also think that there can be to much air in soil too, you can see in my cups where i cut the big holes in the bottom that the roots didnt even grow close to the holes

Well that's interesting, because I'm planning on making mine out of window screen material. Too much air hey? Scary.

initially, as in from day 1, i only water along the utmost edge of the pot. never near the stem or middle. this makes the roots reach for the edges. before putting any medium into the pot, i just use a knife to make 1in vertical slits all over the bottom 3/4 of the sides. after a while, usually 20days or so, i start to normally water the entire surface thoroughly. i always have very very nice & even root coverage/balls this way.

I used the official smart pot outdoors for my last grow.

Pros:
*Air Pruning
*supposedly better soil and air exchange (I believe it)

Cons / Learning Experience:
*I tried using Fox Farm's Light Warrior soil-less medium in them and even pouring slowing by hand I had trouble with water coming out the sides.
*High Price

They really do air prune. I had my plants in my Smart Pots, and they had filled out the container. I put them inside large soil bins thinking that the roots would go through the fabric and into the new soil. NOPE. Being air pruned the roots did nothing.

I had to do a whole surgical transplant with cutting the sides of the root ball off to stimulate growth again.

Overall that was a noob grow but it turned out pretty awesome.

Looking back, I would not buy them again. I would save Smart Pots for last as far as pimping out your garden goes.

The fabric isn't organic, or regular plastic or nylon. The fabric threads are very whispy and the fabric pattern reminds me fiberglass panels. Good luck with a DIY.

I only read 2 pages, but this is alot of thought and brain power to DIY these pots. I use the smart pots, and they are not expensive. like $3.50 for the 5gal size. $3.00 if i buy 12.
