Those who are humble to learn from others and appreciate what they learn are truly broad-minded. It is with such a beautiful heart their faith radiantly manifests itself.

"What can we say, then, of persons who are devoting themselves to Buddhism? Surely they should not forget the debts of gratitude they owe to their parents, their teachers, and their country. But if one intends to repay these great debts of gratitude, one can hope to do so only if one learns and masters Buddhism, becoming a person of wisdom."

"Now, no matter what, strive in faith and be known as a votary of the Lotus Sutra, and remain my disciple for the rest of your life. If you are of the same mind as Nichiren, you must be a Bodhisattva of the Earth."

"As you all know, salmon are born in rivers, swim to the sea where they grow to adulthood, before returning several years later to lay their eggs in the rivers in which they were born. They swim strenuously upstream against the current, sometimes injuring themselves on rocks and stones, and then the males and females come together and spawn. The female salmon protect the eggs in a hole they cover with gravel. After which, the parent salmon die.

“Salmon give their all so they can leave behind descendants. The same is true of human beings. That’s how challenging it is to produce successors.

“I hope that all of you will make the same arduous effort to pass on to your children, your grandchildren, and your juniors in faith, all that you have learnt and accumulated in your lives through your Buddhist practice. Continuing to kindle the flame of faith in those around you is how we ensure the eternal perpetuation of the Law."

"Suffer what there is to suffer, enjoy what there is to enjoy. Regard both suffering and joy as facts of life, and continue chanting Nam-myoho-renge-kyo, no matter what happens. How could this be anything other than the boundless joy of the Law? Strengthen your power of faith more than ever."

"Nichiren Daishonin states that if we follow a friend who upholds the Lotus Sutra, a person who is a rare treasure, we will not only be able to attain Buddhahood, but also to lead others to enlightenment, even parents who may have initially been opposed to our Buddhist practice (cf. WND-1, 638). As long as we stay united with our fellow members, good friends who embrace the Mystic Law, we will be able to walk the path to happiness and victory, and help our other friends and loved ones do the same."

"Although I and my disciples may encounter various difficulties, if we do not harbour doubts in our hearts, we will as a matter of course attain Buddhahood."

We experience true pleasure in life when we are able to courageously face and overcome all kinds of hardships. The Gosho says: "Strive ever harder in faith, and never give in to negligence."* Let's joyfully and fervently carry out our daily practice of Gongyo and Daimoku so that we can manifest our full potential of the Buddha from within and be constantly victorious!

"And yet, though one might point at the earth and miss it, though one might bind up the sky, though the tides might cease to ebb and flow and the sun rise in the west, it could never come about that the prayers of the practitioner of the Lotus Sutra would go unanswered."

" Employ the strategy of the Lotus Sutra before any other. 'All others who bear you enmity or malice will likewise be wiped out' [cf. LSOC23, 329]. These golden words [of the Lotus Sutra] will never prove false. The heart of strategy and swordsmanship derives from the Mystic Law. Have profound faith. A coward cannot have any of his prayers answered.- From “The Strategy of the Lotus Sutra” (WND-1, 1001).

"Always courageously open the way forwards with the 'strategy of the Lotus Sutra.' This is the Gakkai spirit in direct accord with the Daishonin’s heart. For that reason, let’s begin every undertaking with strong prayer.

"The Mystic Law has the beneficial power to vanquish all devilish functions. It can activate the heavenly deities and turn anyone in any of the Ten Worlds into a friend or ally.

"Even this supreme strategy, however, will be to no avail if we are cowardly. Courage is of the essence. With courageous faith, let us open the way to victory in all spheres."
