"The bond we share as fellow members of the SGI, mentor and disciples, is based on the vow to dedicate ourselves to the great adventure of realising kosen-rufu in this troubled saha world.

"Through courageous and compassionate dialogue, our grassroots movement has helped one suffering individual after another embrace the Gohonzon. Today, in countries around the world, members who uphold the Gohonzon—fellow Bodhisattvas of the Earth—are forging ahead heroically. While striving to overcome their own karmic trials, they bravely hold aloft the banner of happiness and victory for themselves and others.

"Proud and aware of their mission as Bodhisattvas of the Earth, our members have stood up to enable all people of the Latter Day of the Law to savour life’s true triumph. They are the genuine disciples and noble emissaries of the Buddha.

"Mr. Toda declared: 'To meet and encounter an auspicious time, to be in rhythm with that time, makes having been born worthwhile.'[1]

"We have entered an age when the banner pledging the 'fulfillment of the great vow for kosen-rufu through the compassionate propagation of the great Law' continues to spread all around the globe. No one can stop our momentum.

"Let’s continue to forge ahead with confident and buoyant steps to expand our unprecedented movement for the victory of humanity, and fulfill our noble mission as Bodhisattvas of the Earth."

"'All disciples and lay supporters of Nichiren should chant Nam-myoho-renge-kyo with the spirit of many in body but one in mind, transcending all differences among themselves to become as inseparable as fish and the water in which they swim. This spiritual bond is the basis for the universal transmission of the ultimate Law of life and death. Herein lies the true goal of Nichiren’s propagation. When you are so united, even the great desire for widespread propagation [i.e., kosen-rufu] can be fulfilled.' - From 'The Heritage of the Ultimate Law of Life' (WND-1, 217).

"Nothing is stronger than unity. As members united together by the Mystic Law, our organisation is a realm of human harmony without compare in the world. Today, 'Many in body, one in mind' and 'Victory' have become the mottoes of SGI members throughout the world. In countries far and wide, members are chanting with one heart for the triumph of our endeavours for a youthful SGI.

"Solidly united in purpose and commitment, let’s forge ahead towards the fulfillment of the great vow of kosen-rufu."

It is absolutely certain that all of our tireless efforts and
selfless dedication for the sake of kosen-rufu,
despite this cold and severe winter weather,
are being admired and praised by all the Buddhas and Buddhist gods.
Remember that there is no strategy that can surpass
the strategy of the Lotus Sutra.
Now is the time for us to muster up the power of faith and practice
more than ever so that we can open up a new era with victory after victory!

"From the viewpoint of the correct teaching of Buddhism, what is the best way to help guide to enlightenment people living in an age of conflict that seems filled with inescapable suffering; what is the best way to eliminate misery and misfortune from the world? The only solution is to help those living in such an age become strong and wise, and to awaken them to the powerful life force of Buddhahood that resides within them and can provide them with the strength to bounce back from every form of hardship and adversity."

The energy and enthusiasm of our young people is the key
to the success and prosperity of our local communities.
Let's chant daimoku unitedly for the growth of our precious youth.
Let's always try to give them warm words of encouragement.

"...fortune comes from one's heart and makes one worthy of respect. The sincerity of making offerings to the Lotus Sutra at the beginning of the New Year is like cherry blossoms blooming from trees, a lotus unfolding in a pond, sandalwood leaves unfurling on the Snow Mountains, or the moon beginning to rise."

The Daishonin encourages us,
"My wish is that all my disiples make a great vow."*
It is by making a great determination
that great joy is born.
Let's therefore make this the year in which
we achieve great progress in our human revolution!

"In his novel The Eternal City, Hall Caine writes: “And if they ask us when our Republic of Man is to come to practical results, we say when the world is ready for it, until first here and then there, as this or that country is ripe for it, it will govern the powers that govern the world.”[1]

Now is the time to take on new challenges, to try new things.
It is important though that we make our goals and targets absolutely clear
and chant daimoku concretely about what it is we want to achieve.
By having faith like that of a courageous lion king,
let's be victorious in everything we set out to do!

Let's all combine our energies to encourage and support
those who are new to this faith and practice.
The very foundation of this practise is gongyo and daimoku.
Together with our new members,
let's stride to realise the highest life condition of "Buddhahood"
and spend each day full of joy!

"President Toda declared:

"'We of the Soka Gakkai have faith; we have the Gohonzon. Everything we have achieved is a result of the benefit of our faith in the Gohonzon....Faith is at the heart of everything. Remaining steadfast in our Buddhist practice is what matters. As long as we have this firm conviction, we’ll never be surprised by anything anyone writes or says about us.'[1]
