Yep you are 100% Right! Nichiren Daishonin is the True Buddha of the Latter Day of the Law and this amazing practice is open to everyone. The SGI is an international organization, in the US known as the SGI USA. This is a non-government organization in the United Nations and is not affiliated with Tibetan Buddhism at all. In fact, the doctrine the Dalai Lama advocates is very different from the universal and incredibly dynamic practice of chanting Nam-myoho-renge-kyo!
The SGI is in 192 countries and territories worldwide and has over 13 million members at this point. The figurehead Mentor of the organization is a great teacher by the name of President Daisaku Ikeda. He is an honorary founding President of the international Soka Gakkai and really demonstrates and encourages all people to enjoy the benefit of the all encompassing practice of Nichiren Daishonin's Buddhism. We recently wrote some great posts on the meaning of this practice and I'm very pleased to know that some new members are getting their own Gohonzon (mandala to chant at home, or the environment of Buddhahood as inscribed by Nichiren Daishonin).
Please continue to chant and enjoy practicing Nichiren Daishonin's Buddhism joyfully and in everywhere you go. This practice is open to everyone including smot pokers and crop growers.

Wow, I can't believe I'm about to post this, but let me share with you all what has happened to me with this Nam-Myoho-Renge Kyo.
I was introduced to this phrase which I was told to chant over and over again with my goals in mind and wait and see what would happen. Well let me just tell you...lol. Prior to that introduction my life was in total turmoil! This was about 6.5 years ago. My life revolved around booze, cocaine and whatever else I could find in order to get out of myself. I would abuse the very people that cared and loved me. I would steal from them, lash out at them and I'm sure other things that don't come to mind at the moment. So I started chanting Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo without believing, just to see what would happen.
I mustered the resolve to change my life, which in turn would change the lives of those around me. Wierd things started to happen in a good way. My relationships were coming around, and the people I cared about began to treat me differently. They began to trust me, they were prould of me and what not... I was financially, emotionally and physically healthy. So what did I do? I started to chant less, I began to be selfish, it was all about me. I remember thinking, "I'm good! I've made it!" So i stopped taking action, and stopped fighting for personal progress. Finally I ceased to chant and put my busodan away along with my Gohonzon which was in it.
Well that was about 5 years ago. My life seems to have been put on hold. Those negative habits and emotions began to start rolling, and rolling to hard and fast that they gained momentum like a snowball rolling down a steep slope. I ended up right back where I had been 6.5 years ago. However, this time it was worse. I lost all my friends, and was about to lose my wife and 7 month old child because my wife was ready to leave me. She went away to Trinidad for a week to take the baby and let some family members that cannot travel meet our son. While they were away I decided that I had to, and could change my life again. What did I have to do? Bust out the Gohonzon and start chanting again. I found an old friend that used to live in the states, but went back to Japan. I sent himn a message on Facebook and he connected me with some members in my area. And so I began to chant for change.
That was only 14 days ago. My life is nothing like it was 2 weeks ago. My relationship with my wife has totally changed for the better! My finances are straightening themselves out, and my conviction to succeed is so strong that I'm not anxious about anything. I have a feeling that I just know everything will be awesome as long as I keep this resolve to chant and share this with anyone that will listen and is interested in a different way of lliving. Now I'm inspired to write a series of books to help others that are in the darkness in which i was. I will illustrate the similarities between 12step programs and Nichiren Buddhism. I'm going to get my phd in psychology and dedicate my life to serve others.
It makes me feel so good to be a member of this organization! It truly is a way of life!! Faith, Practice and Study will be the foundation of my practice so that I may succeed in all my undertakings, and help others do the same by showing them Nam-Myoho-Renge-Kyo!!!

Its good to see another addition to our family of chanters, and great to hear such an inspirational success story,
Im personally still slacking with my chanting, ill chant for 5-10 minutes while lying in bed trying to sleep(this is while im not smoking and cant sleep), but however i havn't been doing any morning chants at all,
Maybe this is why my job hunting isnt going to perfect atm,
I still really want a gohonzon to chant 2 but im not sure how or where to get one, and of course the price, gotta keep all my money atm to pay bills incase i cant get a job fast enough, Im guessing my local SGI would stare me in the right direction,but once again i also need to get a car 1st, which involves me getting a new job before that,
I think ill have to start chanting in the mornings as i wake up, or even in the shower, i have the best thought process' and clearest mind 1st thing in the morning in the shower.
Anyways thanks for the great inspiration Cuban, everytime we get a new chanter and they share their stories it makes me feel warm inside and full of light.

First off .. Afro here is a link as to where you can get connected. Follow the prompts to a center near you. Second of all Afro the Gohonzon doesnt cost you anything. You might have to spend a small amount on a Butsudan to place it in but even that can end up not costing you anything. When you show up at the center you will find members more then willing to help you recieve Gohonzon. Im so sorry that you havent understood that Gohonzon is free But it may just work out that you will meet a member like me ... my son built me a beautiful Butsudan so I have been able to pass on my smaller starter to a friend Please Afro as you follow the link if you have any questions about finding a place please feel free to pm me or ask questions here in the thread so others can learn from them . Which ever your most comfortable with. So sorry you havent had more direction before this

I just had my first big breakthrough with all my local friends in one place chanting together and participating in a great meeting! Wow, I am so pleased to see Cuban representing (I'm with you and support you, PM me anytime!), Afro and Babba keeping shakubuku in motion and my brother PasstheDoobie laying it out for us! Wow, I'm so happy and chanting strongly. I'm attracting so much good fortune through my dedicated and sincere efforts for the happiness of all mankind! Please keep chanting for your friends and family and let them know about this! Life is good my friends!
I'm also chanting for all of you and those who you love that passed away. We will be eternally honoring the Gohonzon together and this is awesome! I'm so happy that we all have such strong faith and know the power of Nam-myoho-renge-kyo! Get your Gohonzon up at eye level and enjoy the happiness that comes with chanting daimoku!
