"To this day, my feelings have not changed in the slightest. No matter what anyone might say, each of you is a precious member with a great mission for kosen-rufu. Each of you is a noble individual with a circle of friends that only you can connect to Buddhism….. I am praying with the hope that you will stand up and take action for kosen-rufu without fail.”

There's no need to be swayed by other people's opinions. Just press forwards cheerfully and confidently on the path of your own unique mission, in accord with the principle of ‘cherry, plum, peach and damson.' Strive in a way that’s true to yourself.”

“Each of you should summon up the courage of a lion king and never succumb to threats from anyone. The lion king fears no other beast, nor do its cubs.”

“‘This I will state. Let the gods forsake me. Let all persecutions assail me. Still I will give my life for the sake of the Law.... Whatever obstacles I might encounter, so long as persons of wisdom do not prove my teachings to be false, I will never yield! All other troubles are no more to me than dust before the wind.

‘I will be the pillar of Japan. I will be the eyes of Japan. I will be the great ship of Japan. This is my vow, and I will never forsake it!’ (WND – 1,280-1; “The Opening of the Eyes”)

“By describing in this passage his personal resolve and his readiness to face any obstacle, the Daishonin seeks to vanquish the doubts that have taken root in his disciples’ hearts.

“He is saying to the effect: ‘Because of my vow to realise kosen-rufu for the eternal future of the Latter Day of the Law, I will not be the least concerned even if the heavenly deities abandon me. I don’t care how much I am persecuted. I have been prepared from the beginning to give my life for this vow.’ This unwavering commitment is the very essence of a genuine practitioner of the Lotus Sutra. It is the epitome of an invincible spirit.”

Let's all express the epitome of an invincible spirit in every challenge we defeat. Forrest! Challenge yourself and your illness for the sake of the Law! I must do the same. We all must endeavor in our own way to make the world a better place. For the sake of our mothers and fathers and our children and loved ones, let's seek to BE BETTER HUMANS.

Entrustment

At that time Shakyamuni Buddha rose from his Dharma seat and, manifesting his great supernatural powers, with his right hand patted the heads of the immeasurable bodhisattvas mahasattva and spoke these words: “For immeasurable hundreds, thousands, ten thousands, millions of asamkhya kalpas I have practiced this hard-to-attain Law of supreme perfect enlightenment. Now I entrust it to you. You must single-mindedly propagate this Law abroad, causing its benefits to spread far and wide.”
Three times he patted the bodhisattvas mahasattva on the head and spoke these words: “For immeasurable hundreds, thousands, ten thousands, millions of asamkhya kalpas I have practiced this hard-to-attain Law of supreme perfect enlightenment. Now I entrust it to you. You must accept, uphold, read, recite, and broadly propagate this Law, causing all living beings everywhere to hear and understand it. * Why? Because the thus come one has great pity and compassion. He is in no way stingy or begrudging, nor has he any fear. He is able to bestow on living beings the wisdom of the Buddha, the wisdom of the thus come one, the wisdom that comes of itself. The thus come one is a great giver of gifts to all living beings. You for your part should respond by studying this Law of the thus come one. You must not be stingy or begrudging!

* Fulfilled by Nichiren and his followers fulfill by chanting Nam Myoho Renge Kyo

“Suffer what there is to suffer, enjoy what there is to enjoy. Regard both suffering and joy as facts of life, and continue chanting Nam-myoho-renge-kyo-myoho-renge-kyo, no matter what happens. How could this be anything other than the boundless joy of the Law? Strengthen your power of faith more than ever.”

“And yet, though one might point at the earth and miss it, though one might bind up the sky, though the tides might cease to ebb and flow and the sun rise in the west, it could never come about that the prayers of the practitioner of the Lotus Sutra would go unanswered.”
