CFL's 1st grow

I started my diary about 2 weeks ago in another forum, but I found out that it's all kids, and I was coming to icmag for info anyway, so I decided to move it here.

Well the time has come to stop paying for bud, and do what I needed to do a long time ago. I have a space of 22" x18" (38"h for flower, 19" veg). I am vegging with 3 x 42w 5500k cfl's. I ordered the 6400k bulbs along with some 68w 2700k bulbs from some website, and they screwed up. The 68w doesn't exist, and the 42w only was avail in 5500k. We'll get some 6400k for next time. The flower box is underneath the veg box. (Backward I know now) I have 2 x 125w 2700k not so compact fluro's. I have a 6" house fan for exhaust, a 120cm computer fan between rooms, another 120cm comp fan blowing on the bulbs, and a squirrel cage style desk fan blowing the air around on the bottom of the flower box. The ghetto style black poly door is layered and sealed with plenty of air holes in it. The big bulbs still get very hot, will be a struggle to keep it under 85 deg most of the summer. I have a bunch of seedlings and a couple of clones thanks to a generous friend. He went to a'dam looking for seeds, met the dna guys there, fell in love with their stuff. All of my seeds are from them, but not all are released strains so we''ll see what we get...I currently have in the veg box: 1 7week old Martian Mean Green, 7 7weel old E.C.S.D. (don't know whose) x L.A. Confidential (call it east coast confidential. Jersey, Stand up.). I have 1 Sweet Haze clone, and 1 Dutch Passion Strawberry Cough clone. Both about 3 weeks past rooting and being potted. I also have 2 M.M.G. and 2 O.G. Kush x G-13 Haze (think that this is mk ultra, but my buddy got the seeds right from the DNA guys, and they told him ogk x g13. whatever). I am growing in Fox Farm Ocen Forest soil, and using some starter pack of nutes from techniflora. The nutes pack has 125 mil B-1 (125 of both red and green), 125ml awsome blossoms, 500ml of BC Boost, Grow, and Bloom, and a little thing of rooting gel. 15 bucks, sold me. Been using the nutes on my tomatoes, and on my outdoor spot, and both seem to love the stuff. Feed all but the seedlings once so far, with 2 shots of b-1 green foliar, and b-1 red on transplant. I have a lot of plants, but I want to sex them, and take a MMG male, and an EC conf. male to gather pollen. Starting in 4" square pots, and transplanting to 6" square pots (shouldn't have got white, may paint the inside. Does anyone know where to get 'Griffin's Spin Out'?) for flower. Lots of LST in these girls. The older Mean green is a nasty plant. Tough, stinks, and grows like a weed. I have two EC conf. that have almost round leaves, so I dubbed them 'Afghanica'. I started the diary about 2 weeks ago, the first seeds broke the from June 22-28. I will post some pics later, when I figure out how to config the proxy the right way. The plants need their second round of einstein's oil, due to the spider mites I inherited with the clones. I'll take pics then. In the meantime, I'll try to post some of the older pics. The first 'from seed' plants went into 12/12 on 7-13. 1 Martian Mean Green, and 1 ECSD x LA Conf. (E.C. Conf.). 2 more E.C. Conf. went 12/12 on 7/17. As of this morning, only the MMG has shown sex (female).

After all of my ghetto ingenuity, the temps hover at about 5-7 deg above the room temp. I run the lights when the air is cooler to avoid having to use the A.C. (Yes, I am that cheap lol). The flower box temps go from about 70-85 with the lights on, and 65-75 with em off. The veg box stays pretty much the same as the flower box (maybe a little cooler). I'll get pics of the setup up later today. Don't expect pro photography, as the camera phone will only do so much........

I had to take the plants out of the flower room for the 2nd round of Einstein's oil, so I took some pics. The S.Haze has been flowering for about a week, and the S.Cough for about 5 days. The Mean Green showed it's first pre-flower on 7-23, and went in to 12/12 on 7-13. My question is, Is she on day 3 of flowering, or day 13? Do you count "days" from when the plants go to 12/12, or from when they show?

I count days from 12/12 when sharing info around here....the first lights on period after the initial 12 hours of darkness is day one in my garden

VT- Thanks, the 'days in flower' #'s had me all distraught! lol

Day 18 of 12/12, and I think that all 3 E.C. Conf. are females. I am sure of 2, and 95% sure of the third. This creates a bit of a space issue for me, but that is not a bad issue to have, especially going into August! I took cuttings of the Mean Green on 7-29, and they haven't died yet. I put the cuttings into small cups of vermiculite that were soaked in B-1/Kelp solution for about 30 min before hand. Used clonex rooting gel that came with a sample pack of techniflora nutes. Followed J.Cervantes instructions per the MJ Medical Bible, and was much easier than I expected. I don't have a humidity dome, but I constantly mist with a super weak kelp solution. I'll get pix of the clones up later. The Mean Green is growing 1"-2" per day, and I have already topped her, and supercropped the main stem bout 4" from the top. The sweet Haze and Cough are starting to look frosty. The plants still smell like neem oil, only now it's neem mixed with dank! I put 4 of the remaining 7 plants in veg into 30 hours of darkness, and will be taking them out of the veg room for 12 hours of darkness to determine sex. I still have (2) og kush x G-13, (2) Mean Green, and (3) E.C. Conf. to sex. One of the E.C. Conf is a curly leafed mutant, and the ogk x g-13 plants look like 2 different pheno's, both look awesome! I read a post somewhere here a while back about using pine sol for odor control, and today I bought a little bubbler fountain, and a bottle of imitation pine sol (fabuloso!) and it works like a charm. splash of fab in a cup, fill with water, fill fountian. Was fighting with plug-in's and stick up air fresheners before, and they seemed to just cover up odor, but this fountain thing kills it. Only smell is a hint of industrial freshness if you stick your nose within 5 feet of the plants. NO SMELL outside of the closet that houses the grow space. Nice.

Lil update here. Day 23 of 12/12, and the plants are happy. The Martian Mean Green is towering over the crowd, even after a few supercropps. The vertical growth has slowed, somewhat. The Sweet Haze and Strawberry Cough are filling in nicely. They are getting frosty, and I will try to get my hands on a real camera for bud shots soon. The Mean Green is pumping out hairs. The E.C. Conf seem to want to stay very short and bushy, with only one of them putting out many shoots. I am going to clone all 3 E.C. Conf's, in an attempt to find a worthwhile mother. Right now, I am calling them "A", "B", and "C". "A" is the one that went 12/12 on 7-13, and B + C went 12/12 on 7/17. We'll see how they turn out, but right now A looks like the keeper. It is growing faster, with more shoots and a different smell than B and C. B and C only want to grow a single cola. The clones I took of the MMG on 7-28 are looking healthy, but I don't see any roots yet. I have been taking 4 plants out of veg for 12 hours of darkness. None has shown obvious sex yet, but I think that 3 of them are males. I do want a male from one of each strain, as I plan to make some seeds.

Doc - Thanks for the link, there is so much good stuff here at icmag that it can be hard to (re)find

The clones have rooted, and I believe that I have at least 2 males (1 E.C. Conf, 1 MMG)from the 4 I am trying to sex. The flower box is filling (and stinking) up very nicely. Think that I nute burned the Sweet haze a little bit, as some of the more delicate leaf tips have turned brownish. She'll get just water for a while. I have been using a 'tasty water' fert schedule for flower thus far. 1/3 strength EJ Bloom, 1/3 strength Age Old Bloom, 1/2 strength B-1/age old kelp. I give the plants 2 cycles of tasty water, then water; 2 more tasty water's, chem's, water, etc...)Only gave them the chem's once, bout 10 days after 12/12. No pics, cause clone roots, and fuzzy pics of green balls aren't worth taking/posting LOL. I will be shopping for a camera because these buds are too sexy for the camera phone, and only going to get sexier!

I got my camera today, and started snappin away. 125 online for a samsung s730. I also picked up some grandma's robust molasses, looks to have more goodies (see pics). I gave my last 3 veggin plants (mmg, ec conf, and ogk x g13) to a good outdoor home. I took clones of E.C. Conf. A, B, and C. "B" clone didn't make it, I got sloppy. I (incorrectly) judged 3 of 4 of the plants I was sexing to be male. Turns out, I only have a MMG male, and an EC Conf male. To save on space, smell, water use, etc., I trimmed what I thought to be the males way back. The og kush x g13 is officially a female, albeit a naked one. I took a nice clone this morning, and will definitely give her a go next round. The momma and 1 EC Conf will hang out with the males for a little while for a bunch of random seed, then go outside to finish up. I have a sweet spot in my apt where I get direct morning sun and afternoon from 3-6ish, so I put the foursome on a 9-9 schedule. I have a 42w cfl helping out on cloudy days. Enjoy the pics!
