CFL Flowering

I'm a first timer and still at the seedlig stage.
I use cfl 250W 5000K for veg and have a 250W 2700K for flowering.

I was adviced to buy those lamps by the boss of the grow shop, when I was planning to buy HPS. The CFLs, he said, was sufficient for 4-6 plants.

Those will work well and significantly less power (electrical) cost!!

I ran 5000k throughout all....no problems, cutting light to 13/11 in bloom stage.
Good luck!!

You can def pull off a decent grow using just CFLs. I've done it myself and was super suprised as well as when I showed people pictures on here. They didn't believe it was a CFL grow. This is when i was just starting out. Now. You can use t5 tubes. Or the spiral CFLs as well. I got a few from Home Depot. I used like 4 of them. I think they were 42w or something in that range pumping out at least 4K lumens each. N a smaller one 2700 lumens each. They were like $10 bucks a piece. But it worked out super great. Ill gett the exact info and bulbs if you'd like. But obviously can't beat a nice hps/mh grow. Both have pros and cons to them is all.

Heat factor and energy from hps. Gotta make sure that's taken care. Again all depending on your space. And quantity of plants you got going. And skill

You can have 5000 watts of HPS an end up with a shitty crop if you don't know what your doing with it. Or have 48w t5 and good skill and pull something fairly decent with the right skills and such.. Research and Informarion is your friend. I never stop reading and learning no matter how experienced or skillful I may think I am. There's ALWAYS room for improvement and learning new things. That's just my way of thinking you know. Some people on here got some Serious skills. And I just Love to see it in action and learn from them.

The light penetration is worse with CFL than with LEDs or HPS so adding any light on the sides is a good thing. I had in a grow closet a 250 W DUAL (2700K+6500K) CFL with a reflector above and added all 2700K 20-36 W bulbs I had (4 of them) to surround the girls. They liked it, a lot.

So I have been doing some research on flowering under CFLs and cant seem to find what Im looking for. It seems everywhere says its not bad to do, then is just showing pictures of the buds. How many Cfls will I need? anyone have a link to a thread about this? It would be appreciated greatly. :joint:

Well they make 125 and 200 watt cfls. I veg with them but you could flower with them. Id use four of the 200w per square meter in wings.

Or you could use one or two in smaller spaces. Ideally though id put a 200w cfl over each plant with a wing. Would work with most sustems though might not be enough light for dwc and such. Would be interesting to try.

I hear while cfl yields suck the bud is very good most are full spectrum. With the 200w and wing keep them a bit away because they burn plants like at least a foot though 18" might be better with a wing.

You could get away with puttin smaller plants under 125s but 200s are better way more intense.

You would want to flower them small so the plants stayed smaller because the light dosent have great penetration. Also more open narrow leaf plants would allow light through better than something super broad leaf and stocky. My super lemon haze would be a ideal plant for cfl growers. Noce and open. Ogs might work good too. Anything with a open structure.

A good friend used to scrog with a 200 per plant and it worked well for him he got about 100 grams a plant which wasnt a great yeild but 400 grams per 4x4 isint that bad the quality was great. Fluffy bud but good dope

I use PL-L lights for veg AND flower for 7 years now and I'm really happy with the results.

I have used 400 Watt HPS-lights before, but since I only grow for my own supply, this was a little overkill. Additionally, I'm more interested in breeding and experimenting than in growing huge crops. So instead of one 400 Watt light in one tent, I now use 3 x 110 Watt + 1 x 160 Watt PL-Ls in 3 tents: one for cloning: homebox-S = 110 Watt; one for veg: homebox-S = 110 Watt; and one for flowering: Homebox-L = 110 Watt + 160 Watt.

Of course your buds won't be as big when using big lights. And it's indeed a good idea to try to get an even surface, due to a notably worse light-penetration in the deeper regions of your canopy. But the results are decent and the quality is just as good. Not even the buds density is much different (a friend of mine is growing one of my strains under 2x600 Watt and his buds are, of course, a lot bigger, but not much denser). I get about 0,6 to 0,75 gr. / Watt this way, depending on the strains I run.

So, if you're just growing for yourself (and maybe a couple of friends), using CFL's of PL-L's is a pretty good way to go. I also comes with the bonus of comparably low odor, low temps and a lot less transpiration, so you don't have to worry about watering too much. Well, and lower costs of course :)

I don't look back at growing 'conventionally' :) (Well, maybe sometimes, when I see some arm-sized buds grown under a billion watts, but hey: I'm human after all^^)
