One of the CMH bulbs is not fireing up. :cuss:

I have received a bad CMH bulb from advancedtechlighting for sure. This is like the 10th complaint about these bulbs on this forum alone. I will let you know how AdvancedTechLighting handles warranty exchanges. Has anyone dealt with warranty issues from this company?

P.S. I am extremely happy with the working one lol :rasta: And I have 2 working ballasts that both fire the working CMH bulb right away.

when ordering bulbs you might be better off ordering a spare or 2 so if one doesn't fire up than you don't get slowed down and if they all work than you have an extra which is always a good thing

I had a bad 250, it went during the first 24 hours. DO NOT WORRY ABOUT CUSTOMER SERVICE!!

It was replaced and the new one has been running since along with the 400 I bought.

Advanced Lighting is great, he is totally stand up and will make sure you are taken care of. As far as bulb failures, I put that more on Philips than Advanced Lighting.

My personal experience, don't worry about it getting sorted out, it will. Sorry to hear you had a problem though.

I think it's important to remember the fragility of the bulbs, the nature of mass frieght shipping and that accidents happen. If the retailer believes in customer service and satisfaction, that's all we can really ask.

If you look back a few pages, there's a picture of the bulb that I received that got damaged through shipping. I sent av an e-mail, and got a response a few hours later. They had another one in the mail for me the next day, and I received it in another 3 days. It's all in one piece, and running beautifully. Hope this helps.........

I'm using GH PH down...With the water quality here I find myself having to add about 2.25ml or so per gallon running Lucas with GH Flora series nutes...When mix 1/4-1/2 strength I have to use a little more also

Think I'm gonna try a run without the silica first...Kinda strapped for $$$ ATM

Thanks for the rely

This is quite true, while i've had good luck with lightbulbs, i have a 2 out of 5(well, 7 including the reshipments) on LCD screen failure from online sources. Sometimes things just get hit a little to hard, and break the delicate components inside. Such is the current freight shipping standards. In both cases the freight insurance took care of everything and got it taken care of in roughly a week.

I had a friend that worked at a UPS/FedEX/etc. warehouse. They were rated not on how well they handled packages, but how many trucks they could unload in a shift. It seems they arn't worried about the couple packages that get hurt in the process.

I also had a friend work at a UPS facility...He stated the worst thing you could do was label your item "FRAGILE"

This was a sure way to ensure extra rough handling during transfer :muahaha:

I use a 6" elicient at the moment (350cfm or so) and I have a 449cfm 6" vortex sitting on a shelf. It is more about the ambient and how you circuit air in a given area. Most of the year it is 60-80F lights on and 3months it is 80-100F lights off and 75-90F lights on as the ambient gets out of hand hot!!!!

Currently 36-50F lights off and that is slowing my growth rates but, oh well. I am heating the area but, only so much as I am maxxed on KW.

Hey azeotrope, how loud is the 6" vortex?
I ask because i splurged on one because i knew they were one of the better inline fans and have a 10 year warranty, and you can run them with a speed control, which i plan on doing.

And on a totally awesome note, i just got a 400w sunlight supply ballast, cord and socket, for about 50-60 shipped. Simba, this ballast should run these cmh bulbs right?

Regarding Advancedtechlighting.com, they sent me this message:

"Sorry to hear about that..

we thought we have taken Pre-emitve measures to ensure no Failure upon receiving the bulb by Pre-Burning the lamps However we are finding that some are still failing probably due to harsh Shipping..
On Monday please ship back the bad one via FedEx Ground or US Post (usps with delivery confirmation (we dont trust USPS) , no ins needed)

We will ship out another one Monday..

Please ensure you Ship back ASAP as we offer Advanced Returns Until we get burned by someone not sending back.."

So 2 giant thumbs up for advancedtechlighting.com. Excellent service!!

I gotta give advtech a big two thumbs up as well. Good company to do business with. I hope they start carrying a full line of growing equipment some day.

That ballast pictured should do just fine. I believe that it is a core and coil.

Pardon me for poking my nose into a question I wasn't asked. I have a 4" Elicent which is quiter than the 6" Vortex. From a "stealth" standpoint, I would call it DANGEROUSLY loud. If you can put the fan in the attic or behind locked doors, the noise can be controlled with speed controllers, mufflers and sound isolation boxes. If people are allowed into the room where the fan lives, you'll need something to take the rap for the noise. Such as several large aquariums or a rack full of computer servers.

I have to say..
when using CMH..
you NEED to add SILICA to your nutes..
well not need but it makes alot bigger difference with cmh than with HPS..
its needed for the plants cells to divide which is what we NEED>>
use silica as PH up also.. (mix ur nutes, use silica per instructions and to raise PH)

Hello Simba,

Silica is important, but is it only for hydroponic setup ?!

You can not use it in soil, because silica is fungicide, it kills the trichodermas if you use it...

Yes you can use silica in within a soil application....I've read a lot on the use of silica, Silica aids in inhibiting fungal growth,it aids in helping flowering plants to cope with heat stress....I also read that silica helps to keep the plant's nodes tighter....Rare Earth is a great silica source that can be easily applied in a soil grow....You can make a colloidal tea, which consists of 1-tablespoon of Rare Earth mixed with a gallon of hot water....Then allowed to cool for a day or so!!!! as far as Rare Earth DONT waste your money..
I have crap loads of it and im going to mix it in my garden outside..
i found Silica in Giz form works far better with allot less mess (from side by side Experience)
but again i dont do soil so i dont know what really works and doesn't..

as far as using GH's PH down and silica no concerns just add a hair of silica if ph issues.. (your plant dont need to Guzzle it.. little is better than nothing at all IMPHO irt Silica)

Just got some dutch master silica, I'll be adding it to my nutrient mix (BC Nutrients grow, boost, bloom). Hopefully I don't screw anything up. :X
