Abstract
Plant bioassays are an important and integral part of the test battery used in detecting genotoxic/carcinogenic contamination in the environment. Highly sensitive biomonitoring of plant models have been developed, which enables the detection of hazards arising from pesticides, insecticides, industrial contamination, heavy metals and radiation. Root tips of Vicia faba ssp. minor were treated with 1-60 mM of the organophosphorus insecticide dichlorvos (DDVP) for 2 h, followed by a 20-h recovery period. Maleic acid hydrazide (MH) was used as a positive control for the mitotic index, micronucleus and chromosomal aberration assays performed on the Vicia model system. All treatments with DDVP significantly decreased the mitotic activity and increased the frequency of chromosomal aberrations at the metaphase. The frequency of micronuclei was significantly increased at DDVP concentrations starting from 10 mM. The results demonstrate clastogenic and mitodepressive effects of DDVP on Vicia faba cells.

"I am quite content to go down to posterity as a scissors and paste man for that seems to me a harsh but not unjust description"
— James Joyce (Lettres, tome 1)
Something else did that to your cuts, Grass Lands. The dichlorvos didn't do it.
OK, good people here is my opinon... I have been growing for thirty years. And I don't care to debate this issue. I have been on many boards that are now extinct. Because I don't have many posts here you can choose to believe what I say or take it as you will I don't care to influence or debate this is purely my opinon. If you use the "Hot shot" no pest strips you are poisoning yourself and others period. I have done my research ..I have never had "the borg" before this year and I am not to old to learn ..I had a major attack for the first time in thirty years and I used the "Hot shot' this is poison and no one should use it in my opinion at any time...I care about the meds my friends and family ingest and this is poison period...end of story. Don't use them at any time period. This is my opinion and I know you have your own. But,....I will not post any argument or debate this issue from here on out. If you use these things you are hurting people...while it's temping to save or protect your investment there are better alternatives ...I usually don't get involved in issues but this to me is very important...Please do not use this poison it is a very bad chemical structure and is one that you don't understand...You can dump on me all damm day i am an older person with older friends who are very informed, chemists, pharmalogical, people ect,ect,...This is NOT Just like any other form of industrial pollutant or toxic "sidestream" contaminate you may come in contact with in your daily life. I don't give a fantasic fart what you try to compair it to. This is a warning please don't hurt yourself and others .Please don't take this lightly as I have been reading some posts about this. This is not harmless in my opinon. You will read no more about this from me. All the very best...!
you just used a NPS a few days ago and now after reading the whole thread you've come to the grand conclusion that they are bad for you?
i used NPS for a while and they did work, kinda. mites would return or the strip would stop working and i always had them hanging around without any permanent solution despite cleanings and quarantines.
i stopped using them when it killed a mostly healthy tray of clones that had a few mites on them. i sealed them up with a dome and a No Pest Strip and they were dead less than 12 hours later. i knew there had to be a better way and so i bought some floramite on ebay for like 15 dollars and that was over 1 year ago and i haven't had any mites since. good investment.
i had a cat who passed away this year. he had a tumor in his lungs, breathing became difficult, then he stopped eating and eventually passed away. very sad. he was my best friend and i blame myself for using no pest strips. that may not be the cause but i won't ever know for sure.
i wouldn't use them, there are better ways to exterminate pests.
