these are, i believe, cjsb x gorilla dubble.

so i was just sitting observing the plants at lights on this morning and this plant was just looking done. so i scoped it and saw a few amber trichs and she smelled so damn sweet. the sweetest of the four going. one bud smelled like honeysuckle in bloom, but just one bud the others smelled different. there's a hashy, peppery backend on most of the buds but the first smell is just a really fragrant spring flower. i know i've smelled it from a flower before, i just can't remember the name.
i cut a few of the lower branches but left the majority of her standing to ripen and hopefully fatten up more. i didn't save any cuts of her because she put out too many male flowers. they were all on the lowers hanging down just below where the pistils were on top. fully formed male clusters so i knew it would be a hassle to keep. i pinched most of them off but there were quite a few i missed and pollen was dropped. no seeds though so the pollen is probably sterile.
shoulda saved cuts!

Nice ladies there. The casey can contribute to the lower pollen sacks with her instability. Saw a few pop up this last round. I'd agree, not worthy of keeping cuts especially when there's always more seeds to pop.

This casey run, wrapped up and now time for evaluations. A few of the other casey girls which haven't been pictured yet are making their debut for some dry shots below.

We ended up running 10 of the original 25 for a second round, along with some of my favorite non-casey cuts (including a gorilla bubble). We'll see who makes it for the open pollination. From those 10, I've got my eye on 5 or 6 of them as frontrunners. I tossed everything from the F2 generation, only keeping plants from the bx/ix generation. There was a clear difference in structure, yield, and stability (with one very unstable herm from the f2s). All those are tossed...

But these days, everything's frosty, everything hits hard, for me it's about the terps, production, and structure in selections. If it doesn't stink, toss it. If it doesn't yield respectably, toss it.. If it doesn't have some vigor, stability, and workable structure for production (and post production) cycles, toss it... There's always more seeds...

Here's 4 of the 10 that are sticking around:

Those are the same stock F2s I just ran. Watch out for instability. I was not happy with their performance, but I only popped 9 F2s from my collection, ended up with 8 females, and tossed them all.

Correct, those are about 9.5 years old. They were donated as freebies however, never meant to be sold due to instability... Hope you can still find something nice. They seem to lean more towards the tropical/fruity side as opposed to sour stank.

Not casey related, but exciting... Been sitting on these for almost a decade and figure they should get a shot before they dry up inside and are no longer viable...

And now back to your regularly scheduled casey programming

Casey Jones open pollination now underway... 9 females, 2 males, all from the BX/IX gen (ie: CJ Colored Cut (F1) x CJ F2). Keeping a few of the cuts around for future selective breeding.

Open pollination is occurring in a very small space, so won't have thousands of beans, but should be enough to spread the casey love.

Good vibes all

Terribly sorry for the delay... The casey open pollination is back on and flipped. If all goes well, look for beans to hit the server fund on seedbay sometime in November. My favorite 5 females from the BX/IX will be hit to the selected males.

For those curious on final genetics. This casey gen will be:

(Casey Jones F1 LD Colored Cut x Casey Jones F2 Tropical Stud) 5 females x (Casey Jones F1 LD Colored Cut x Casey Jones F2 Tropical Stud) 2 males

All casey, no out or back crossing, standard male/female line.

It's not as wide of a gene pool as I originally wanted, but the F2s from the original open pollination that were popped didn't make the cut. There should still be a range of sour and TW/Thai phenos given the selections this generation.

Casey seed plants are down and drying. Not a lot (small LED in a corner closet), but you don't need a lot of space for seeds. Enough for backup and then some (we can hope). The ones peeking out are nice and dark and healthy looking. They suffered some serious abuse but made it over the finish line. Root pathogens, small bout with PM, general neglect. Hardy girls and still ended up frosty and colorful even with all the abuse.

Hoping there's enough to send off to the server fund. We won't know for sure until we start the shuck and sort to get an idea of how heavily pollinated they ended up. We'll see what we can do about arranging some testers for those long time casey lovers.

Ended up using 5 females and a mix of pollen from two males. All from my bx/ix generation (Casey Jones F1 colored cut x Casey F2 OE leaning male). cjsb is all over the place (so many different phenos and crosses involved in that line), this should be a bit more refined. At the end of the day, it's a polyhybrid crossed a couple times, and of my 5 girls in this gen, there's definitely 4 distinct phenos, and 2 distinct males. Heat sensitivity is still there. I think this is a line that will take some searching through (due to above), but hoping there's a decent number of hidden gems to be found.

We're just chucking in here, and like to have enough seed stock to run numbers again if needed to find an old favorite. Any extra, we're happy to share with the community.

Good vibes casey lovers

Not that I'm aware. If there's enough of the casey to go to the server fund, we can try to make sure some CJSB makes it also. But those are about 10 years old now.

We did a germ test a month or two ago and still got 9/12 up, so not bad. And still plenty in the vault...

Will see what can be done.

Shameless post for new grow show in my sig. No casey in there though. Smells like LouDog inside the van...

But...

We are shucking some casey jones beans though from the last run. We won't have a ton to share, but will have some for the server fund alongside some cjsb
