Carpenter on call? Building the closet

Cool, I'll come up with some sketches tonight. The heat issue was interesting. Will thick wood really make such a difference? As long as heavy airflow is maintained throughout the chamber, heat from plywood won't create a problem, will it?

Hard to say what the practical difference is w/o testing both setups. A reflective interior might raise air temps slightly but will probably keep material temps in check, IMHO.

My first cab was plywood, the second MDF. Without one of those point and shoot thermometers, I can't tell a dimes worth of difference between the two.

I would go to a used book shop and pick up on of the older better homes or timelife books on carpentry. They're VERY cheap, they were a default "maybe we should get dad something besides a tie" gift for years in the 70's and 80's so there's a ton of them out there.

Here's a new one I saw today at the hardware shop.

I'd be willing to bet you can find something like that for next to nothing at any thrift or used book shop. They'll cover basics like cutting wood, measuring, wood dimensions, all the things that are really good to know ahead of time (like a 2x4 doesn't measure 2"x4" for instance).

well i dont know where you al are, but where i am the price difference between osb and plywood is obvious. its not really about "heavy" air flow as it is " consistent air flow. those lights burn hot and the thicker the material the more tendancy it has to retain the heat from the lights.

in looking back at my design, i could have done the same job with 2x2 that i did with 2x2

***(and someone said that osb is sticky? nah, not true, it is true that osb is a sheet of wood shavings glued together, but its not sticky. thats all i worked with for my cab and experienced no probs at all)

and btw you can check out my main sig FRIENDinDEED to see pics of how i put my cab together. for that diary i actually took pics of my progress (the FRANKENBLUNT420 is my work sign on OR just click that link below between the two dreds! lol)
