Canopy Fan Position?

I am wondering what is better in terms of positioning a fan within the growroom for optimum results.

Should it be directed at the light? between the light and canopy? at the canopy? blowing under the canopy?

For my setup, I've got it blowing down and across the room so it pulls some warm air from the top of the chamber down to the plants. in the summer, i direct it at the light and between the canopy top.

I made a quick reflector yesterday because i didn't really have one before and was thinking about the position of the fan because not there is a batwing messing with the airflow. My temps are good. They're actually really low. I don't have a thermometer, but I'd guess around 60-70 lights on with exhaust fan on lowest setting, 55 lights off no fans on at night.

Setup is 29"d x 39"w x 58"t flower chamber w/ 400w HID Hut digi, bake-round cooltube, 4" exhaust to 6" Panasonic 240cfm Whisper Inline fan w/3-speed fan controller - pulls from outisde through veg chamber into flower chamber throught cooltube and out into the attic, small clip-on 2-speed canopy fan. Mother/Veg/Clone chamber is 29"d x 39"w x 27"t w/ 2x65w Fluorex, 2x24" T-8 fluoro's, no fan - gets air pulled through to flower rm.

Currently ~2weeks into 12/12 with 3xSCROG Hogsbreath from clone, and 3xLST Cherry Pie from seed.

Highon, I apologize I cant comment on fan placement as I am new to this but I wanted to ask you about your Panasonic vent fan.

I was looking at the inline all metal version (as opposed to a typical fart fan style), is this the type you have?

How quiet is it? Could it pull thru a small carbon scrubber do you think?

Overall, what do you think of it?

Thanks for your help!!

In an ideal world you would want the fan blowing cool fresh air up from the bottom of the room to the plants. However, the purpose of the circulation fan is simply to prvent stagnant air from building up around the plants...this can be effectively achieved with a fan placed high or low.

the panasonic fan is the all-metal one. it has hamster wheel fan blades and is well insulated to keep down the motor sound which is like zero. the only noise is from the whooshing air coming out of it. 240cfm is a lot of air and it is going to make noise no matter what fan you get. i'd recommend a speed controller though. in only use it on high when it's hot. i used to push through a scrubber but not now that i vent into the attic. i'm sure it will be fine pulling through a scrubber. i think i got my fan for like $120 and have been using it for around a year.

at one time i thought i destroyed it because i wired it with a plug and plugged it into a bad cord and it arced when i plugged it in. instead of putting on a new plug end i bought a stanley blower for a quick fix. when i moved the closet into the current place, i found the fan was actually fine and now i have a backup stanley blower if i need it. stanley blower is actually very comparable to the panasonic in terms of the type of fan and cfm ratings. the only difference is probably in the housing which is different as one is made for portability and the other to be installed in your vent system. the stanley also comes with 3 speeds and a cord. if i knew about the stanley before the panasonic i would have probably got that and saved $. but then again i have no complaints about the panasonic.

It is still a fart fan, a $120 one at that. Go inline, check out the EconoPlus brands different models, solid as a battleship and kick ass but the noise level is noticeably higher that the Vortex or Elicients, in that order, Elicient being the best IMHO.

Air circulation fans, just don't aim them right at your plants. I run a big mutha and have it angled at the ceiling, does a hell of a job as the air bounces off the ceiling and walls.
