I was wondering if any medical patients have tried making a cannabis salve, lotion, ointment, etc. My mom has terrible arthritis in her neck, and is cool with smoking, but doesn't herself. I think she would benefit greatly from some type of a salve or ointment that she could apply topically to her neck when the arthritis flares. I've mentioned how cannabis can help alleviate some of her pain and discomfort from the arthritis and related problems (she also knows I grow), and thought out loud I might be able to make something like a ointment with cannabis in it. She promptly produced a book with different recipes for ointments and salves, so I know she's interested.
Now, I was thinking something oil-based would be the best, but I was unsure of exactly how I should go about it. I was thinking either some butane honey oil added to an oil based salve, or maybe making an alcohol extraction and use the alcohol as a topical painkiller.
Any thoughts or advice would be greatly appreciated. My mom is a wonderful example of a human being and I hate to see her suffer so much. I'll be harvesting soon, and will be able to use keef, buds, whatever it takes. Thanks!
(I also should mention that my mom won't smoke it, though I may be able to get her to eat it, but the salve is the one thing I've mentioned that she seemed really receptive to.)
