26 year old seeds.....here's how to start seeds, RIGHT :)

Been doing my conventional way of planting seeds for decades. I can never recommend the lame damp paper towel/baggie drill so prevalent in cannabis forums.

Went thru my old stash of seeds and crosses going back to the mid to late 90's the other day and soaked some of the first seeds I got "underground" from the Dam from "jock" who was supplying us long before all the pollen chuckers hit the market. I crossed a Positronics Haze with a Positronics Jack Herer (latter variety being my avatar) and lo and behold, ALL of the 26 year old seeds germed.

I soak them overnight and just as they crack and hopefully before the tail sticks out sow 1/4"-1/2" in sanitized moist soil, leave on the kitchen counter and wait. These were sowed Aug. 14, last one popped yesterday. 3 of them popped the surface 2 days after being sowed.

One variety is Ace Seeds cross, Golden Tiger X Panama. Babies are getting full sun at times.

I know you've discussed this before and the same thing happened to me, I damn near could not find the seeds the way Jock packed 'em in. 😂

He's probably responsible for more quality genetics being developed here in the States than most people realize. Who would have thought back in the day there would _ever_ come a time when we could get overnight delivery of quality seeds, with a _tracking_ number to show the progress all along the way, and most importantly, without worrying about getting busted.

While some things in this country may have gone to hell, ordering seeds over the internet most certainly isn't one of them.

awesome to know that some old original seeds are still viable

are you making any plans with these genetics?..

It was viable because it was my cross of old, original stock I grew out. I stored and moved them into cold storage here and there for over 20 years. For example:

Most if not all "Haze" has been bastardized. Like the buzzwords organic geeks fall for "natural and non-GMO"> "Haze" has become a marketing tool, a gimmick. It is not Sam the Skunkman's original beans he got from some friends who done the dirty deed - Acapulco Gold X Columbia Gold X (S. Indian X Thai).

But I digress..... Noobs will buy anything with a good sales line.

Who knows what the future holds but I'm thinking about crossing a male Posi with the GT which is fem. If the cards fall right I will cross a male Posi with a female.

Hah, what a hoot! Yeah, I thought he had cheated me too.

I can only speak for Real Seeds and Mandala from experience and they are excellent. We smoked some of Real Seeds Afghan Mix bud last night for the first time since it finished last March and it was really nice. Good high, very smooth. I got 17.3 oz. dried from my C99 backcross, C99 X Peak 19 cross, Afghan 90 stuff and Afghan Mix All small plants.

I made seeds with the Afghan stuff, back crosses too. Afghan can swing from euphoric like the Lebanese blond hash of old to couch lock.

Those BG in/out mix seeds reminded me of my first indoor grow.

Posted a pic of this huge main cola that came from those seeds at cannabis dot com when you were the mod. So maybe you'll remember, I think my handle at the time was 100% germination.

I held up a 2 liter soda bottle next to it for scale. It dwarfed the soda bottle. One of the first comments I got was "Damn dude that's the Tommy Lee of buds. For reference the Pamala Tommy Lee sex tape was topical at the time.

Good to see you Ben

GT X Panama is a runt for such a sativa, quite interesting. 24"/20 cm. Very little stretching.

Had nutrient problems, hope they are corrected. Did a double main cola. Here's one. Is getting full sun thru a large greenhouse vent and under LED's. Light on about 11:30. Pix are from last week.

Wow! This is a step back in time, thanks for checking in. I remember you, ya old fart! That was a big cola. My avatar was first posted back then which was/is about 6" across and rock hard. A Posi. Jack Herer. Had fat collections of buds down at the bottom too. Was crammed in with her sistas. So much for the de-leafing hype which is still prevalent today. Folks just don't get it.

BG In/Out were some of my first indoor grows and was the "let's play games and see what happens" origin of my "Topping to get 4 Main Colas" which has been posted "everywhere". Here it is outdoors for photo sake. This was before the digital cam age.

BTW, I have the Pam/Tommy Lee newly wed short videos! About 3 or 4 of them....boat scene, etc. I save everything including posts going back decades from the many forums I belonged to, that came and went - OG, Cannabis World, Planet Ganja.....

Cannabis.com, Ron, was the first true internet cannabis forum, before Vbulletin forums. Then there was ADPC before that using a series of encrypted servers from draft to final posting at the ADPC site. Most if not all around here were still messin'; in their drawers or not even born. Can't remember the year....wasn't it in the early-mid 90's? Yeah, I modded about 6 forums, ate my lunch. I had a troll that with every post I made he'd shit on it. I must have deleted 100 of his worthless posts.

Take care, have a great holiday season.

I remember that pic of you behind the Posi beast.

Between your advice and the Link O Rama I got off to great start back then.

I have two strains of seeds with extra hard shells,i was keep them soaked in water and hydrogen for
10 days, they didnt open, then i put them out and cracked them with scissors, was sees a embrio is still
white and healthy... now i wait to sees if they grow.

I bet i was kill some in a process of cracking shell but i belive some of them will grow maybe..?

One of them is Sour Bubble old atleast 14 years and another is Oroblanco x Orange Diesel V3 that
is old 8 years, thing is that when i worked this seeds i used too much silicates and it showed me that was
very bad decision cause seed shells are so fat that embrio cant sprout.

Anybody else have experience with too fat seed shells?

I had some problem, years ago, with seeds from outdoor grow, from elsewhere. Maybe all that sunshine makes for harder shells?

Storage in freezer, have had twenty year old seed do over 80% germ. Only one complete failure, but that was from seed that had been shipped. Who knows how old they were at the time of shipping, or what conditions they were held/shipped in.

Did the post offices radiate packages and letters, at one time? Maybe they do that these days, i dunno.

Have hundreds other strains that sprout normaly but this two strains have extra hard shells, even with
scissors they dont break easily..
Put them in fine grit sand paper, roll them @ within like you’re rolling a doobie, do it a bit check, do some more, it’ll sand them down, soften them up but cause no damage…

Some species of seeds always require scarifying, cannabis usually doesn’t but sometimes it does, especially if decades old… I’ve popped stubborn seed 35+ years old this way, it works… A brief soak in h202 afterwards isn’t gonna hurt anything either, GL
