you gots to be kidding.

Nipton is the armpit of the Mojave desert, the middle of nowhere.
about a dozen outbuildings, a rundown hotel/general store/post office/eyesore.
train runs right through the middle of it all....
the only 'attraction' is the lottery outlet or the railroad crossing or perhaps its isolation.

oh, Las Vegas is an hour away...

pffft

What a hell hole. If you've never experienced the desert this is a place to get some sand.

The country's largest solar facility is nearby, perhaps they plan to tap into the power, hope they get a licensed electrician!

Water is very scarce out there, perhaps they will create it by distilling it from the dryest desert air I've ever seen. Nipton is almost a ghost town, except for some Eco-friendly camping and a general store.

Good luck!

roflmao, it sounds like this grower might have bitten off a bit more then he can chew. if it's such a hell hole he probably got it real cheap. is there no aquifer bellow the town?

The article said they bought it for 5 mil and were going to put another 2.5 mil in it. Where were these guys when I was selling bridges?

I dunno about stupid. I think it is money well invested. The town is only 10 miles off of I-15, which gets TONS of traffic. It is also only 18 miles from Highway 95, which also gets HEAVY traffic. It is also on a rail line, and at the intersection of smaller state highways, including Highway 164, the Joshuah Tree Highway, which also gets traffic. It is also only a few miles from the Nevada border, and Nevada is low on weed. And in California, a muni can set all the local weed laws, and thus they can grow, process, and sell all the weed that they want within the city limits. And San Bern is a DRY county (no commercial grows, processing or sales on unincorporated county land). They can incorporate and set the local grow taxes to ZERO. They can grow outdoors or indoors with solar driven lights. Water they can truck in all of 35 miles from the Colorado River/Lake Mohave. Weed does not take much water to grow. And it is an easy drive from Henderson, Laughlin and Las Vegas.

Laugh all you want, but I would put my money into this venture. People are paying fortunes to buy land in Humboldt and Mendocino County, but weed grows better in the warm desert. They can grow year round in the Mojave. The temp there right now is 84, 10 degrees cooler than it is here in the PNW!

Seems like a smart move... the town will be worth 10x what they paid for it in just a few years... assuming Jeff Sessions doesn't get his way.

You do know where it is, don't you???

It is a mere 47 hour trek through the Mojave desert from Death Valley to Nipton. On foot. I'm sure you could drive it faster... but I have been out there.

does the road really end there?
roflmao, i think this guy is gonna shock everyone. with enough cash he can make it a fun destination for stoners from non legal states and even internationally. he just has to make a solar panel power station and or wind power, gets some water sorted out and start building cafes and hotels advertize that people can have cups there or other related events and before you know it that guy is rolling in doe. he needs to offer some dirt biking, build a pool folks can cool down in while smoking splifs, etc. have open air movies where you can puff, you will make money on all the services as well as on the weed sold every where. he can force weed outlets to only sell product he supplies. all he needs is a cannabis cup or 2 to get on the map, if he is clever he will use hemp for everything possible, build like they do in hot climates, thick walls and small windows. maybe the canna vacation can even be a green vacation with renewables used where at all doable, specially energy.

tourists can get there easy by using las vegas airport.

Sorry to sound negative, I think it is hilarious!

There is a road thru there, two lane blacktop sometimes covered with sand in spots.

Beautiful desert out there, the land of some type of endangered tortoise.

They created Las Vegas from similarly nothing, this could happen again !!!

Seems a little close to Vegas to me, they already have power, pools, food, gambling, hookers, and oh yea legal cannabis. They just need some of the resorts to cater to cannabis tourism, or at least have a smoking area...

I agree - this could actually work out. They will probably have to spend a good chunk to drill deep enough for water, but, assuming they can do that, it's really not such a bad location.

As you pointed out, it's not too dramatic getting there on the roads.

Yet, I imagine they bought enough flat land to accommodate an air strip as well.

If it's only an hour drive from Vegas, what would it be like from the air? 30 minutes? Maybe get there in less than an hour flying from LA.

Calling all bush pilots - can you perform this mission without getting too high?

you are probably being realistic, it is desert after all, in the end it will depend on his exact plan and the resources he has for this project.

if vegas already has a good vibe for smokers it will be hard. still, will be interesting to see what happens.

If I had the 7.5 million bucks he is spending, I would just retire quite comfortably to the Caribbean or Central America... or possibly the Mediterranean...

And be Very happy about my decision..

Yeah, on the byway to Death Valley....Primm and it's few casinos...not much out there in the parched hills. And temps are unbelievable March- November....unbelievably hot.....not a great place to grow unless air conditioned green houses. Ouch! The expense!

I can think of better ways to spend my $7.5M.
