i think cancel culture isn't JUST twitter and facebook deleting posts and banning people, it includes boycotts.

cancel culture is against individuals speaking.

boycots are against coorporations foe their actions. no one is denying them a voice they are just refusing to spend money with them as individuals. but its not to shut them up, thats the big difference.

what about gubment tearing down tik tok, which is an up and coming public forum for younger gen?

i guess it does raise eyebrows, but i have no idea if suspicions hold water. seems overkill to stomp out a very popular public forum because of speculation and suspicion. tiktok has recently distanced itself from its chinese parent, afaik.

and it begs the question: does freedom of speech have limits when put up against business practices?

another thought: does spreading potentially harmful medical misinformation have free-speech-rights limits?

a doctor can be sued for malpractice if their misinfo causes harm, right? what if its on an open public forum?

these social media giants can, and do, remove posts and comments due to legality matters. reddit stomps out entire subforums that discuss sourcing grey-area-legality drugs, firearms, etc. and i think there's a law on the books now in the u.s. where social media hosts can be held liable for things like child pornography and human trafficker networks. which i think is for the best, except that it makes the social media companies blanket- ban potentially illegal topic discussions in general, like the dark net drug sourcing discussions i mentioned.

and if the fear is tiktok letting our info into the wrong hands, why not ban facebook, twitter, instagram, snapchat, etc. etc. etc.

and how many phones have tech made in china?

the reality of this modern tech age is that nothing is private, and security is always subject to potential threats.

- Time moves on - and things change Teddy - I used to read Andy Capp - in my Grandad's 'Daily Mirror' as a child - and he would smoke Capstan or Woodbines -

- London has been changing radically since the last war - and well over half of what were the resident families in 1950 have now moved away - either to the countryside - or abroad and many have become immigrants themselves to other nations - We see this phenomena called 'White Flight' - which is similar to what has been seen for many years in the USA - so making London browner as you state -

There are masses of multi-ethnic families now here - my own included - and many of them keep to just their own communities and don't like to mix much - so certain areas of London are more black/brown or white than others -

The Cockney Londoner's have been mostly dissipated as the dominant working class people - to be replaced by the Pakistani's/Bangladeshi's/Jamaicans - and several other ethnicities now - you are guaranteed to see BAME people - in London - every time you go out - making London more like major American cities every day -

- Since many of these new people are illegally in the country and from radically different societies - some with medieval religious indoctrination from birth - there is more crime and less security particularly for the English women and kids these days - when we have an unknown quantity of unknown people wandering around - kids don't play outside unsupervised - like we did when we were kids - its just not considered to be safe - and the distinct rise in violent/sexual crime year on year proves it - so more people leave London - as soon as they can afford to - and look for a more secure place -

- We have the same old over propagandized Royalty - like the nations on-going reality posh soap-opera - I tend to ignore most of it - since I am not pro-monarchy -

- in 2006 I emigrated to The Philippines - and went to make my life there - it was the 2nd time I had been an immigrant - the 1st time was in 1977 when I emigrated to the USA (and left 5 years later) -
neither the USA nor The Philippines worked out for me - and that's now why I'm back here in the UK - right here where I started -

- Back in the 80's I was based in Hong Kong for a few years - and saw how industrious and educated the HK Chinese were - so I don't see a problem with bringing a bunch of them to the UK - would probably give a big boost to the UK economy overall -

- As for emigrating to Australia - well, they wouldn't even give me a tourist visa when I applied over 30 years ago - because I got busted with a bit of hashish in 1985 -

- No - certainly not - that was all due to some detective in Maine - who busted a couple of grows that were making seeds I was supposed to later distribute - and they made an indictment - then found out where I was in the world (the Philippines) - and had me detained there as a 'Fugitive' - by the Bureau of Immigration - since I was an immigrant at the time -

The UK's Natural History Museum is reviewing options for its Charles Darwin exhibits, including possible removal, after an internal review ordered amid Black Lives Matter protests found that they could be deemed “offensive.”

The museum's directors are scrutinizing collections that may be considered "problematic," which could lead to removal or lesser remedies, such as renaming, The Telegraph reported, citing internal documents. Artifacts from the father of evolutionary theory are among the suspects because Darwin's voyage to the Galapagos Islands on HMS 'Beagle' was one of the UK's “colonialist scientific expeditions.”

“In light of Black Lives Matter and the recent anti-racist demonstrations around the world,” the museum is re-evaluating room names, collections and statues to root out any that “could potentially cause offense.” A large wing of the museum is named after Darwin, and a statue of the naturalist stands in the museum's main hall.

One of the documents cited by The Telegraph was a paper written by a curator arguing that “museums were put in place to legitimize a racist ideology.” And because “covert racism exists in the gaps between the displays,” collections must be “decolonized.”

The journey by Darwin and Captain Robert Fitzroy to South America served to “enable greater British control” – sinfully offensive in the eyes of some. A statue of Thomas Henry Huxley also could be axed, given the late scientist's racial theories. The contributions of Sir Joseph Banks could be at risk because the botanist traveled on Captain James Cook's 'Endeavor' voyage.

A sharp-eyed curator also found that the ceiling in Hintze Hall has images of cotton, tea and tobacco, “the plants that fueled the British Empire's economy.” Collections from Swedish scientist Carl Linnaeus, who created the Latin naming system for species, and Sir Hans Sloane also are under review. Linnaeus might offend because his system led to renaming of specimens, replacing indigenous terms. Sloane was a founding father of the museum, but he profited from slavery in Jamaica.

“The Black Lives Matter movement has demonstrated that we need to do more and act faster,” museum director Michael Dixon told staff in one of the documents. “We want to learn and educate ourselves, recognizing that greater understanding and awareness on diversity and inclusion are essential.”

Twitter users were taken aback by the thought of collections from Darwin and other major historic figures being canceled. “They're decolonizing museums now,” conservative social media pundit Ian Miles Cheong said Sunday. “You thought they would stop at the statues?”

Other observers likened current events to George Orwell's '1984,' saying that ‘leftists’ are trying to “completely rewrite history to suit their egos.” A New Hampshire writer said: “They literally want to erase history, not store it somewhere so we don't repeat it.”
