Canadian Export now Flooding Canadian Market

Here around where I live is a huge surplus of vietnamese weed. I think this is because the USA and Canadian dollar are about even, so all the stuff shipped to the USA is now staying here in Canada. It isn't worth the risk to ship it over the boarder when their profit margins are not as high. I have noticed in the last three weeks more and more weed being available cheaper than ever offered before. We use to pay $2000.00 for better than average 'Beasters', and now I have been offered it for $1600.00 a pound!

I guess this is good news for people in the USA whom have had enough of this low quality commercial Canadian weed.

My question to all of you in the States is, are you noticing a decrease in 'Beasters' and 'Vietnamese' weed being available in your area? I understand there is probably a large reserve that has to be first depleted, so it is probably to early to notice the effects. But here around the Toronto area 'Beasters' is everywhere and cheap cheap cheap!

Any input would be greatly appreciated as the market has always interested me.

I kept this article from the Register-Guard (Eugene, Oregon) newspaper dated 11-4-07. According to the Corvallis PD (Oregon) the street level price for a pound of HQ weed is between $3000 and $5000 per pound and worth more when sold an ounce at a time.

Pot is Oregon's biggest cash crop and it has been awhile since I have seen any from Canada, Mexico, ect.

interesting, some good folks i know that deal with usually only "viet beasters" (several bo's at any given time) have been offering it to me for way cheaper than they usually ever would when i was younger and picking up from them

man i cant stand that shit though, always looked or seemed "good" but usually its was kiefed, wet, and uncured :cuss:

All this years fall crops are coming in, or have come in. Allowing a few weeks for drying, etc. I'd expect price varying. In well or oversupplied areas, prices will likely drop....temporarily.

Weed is like gasoline in my 40+ years of experience buying it. The price flucuates over the short run, but has gone nowhere but UP over time. I remember the so-called nickel bags(1/4 oz) for 5 bucks in the late mid/late 60's in CA. Then back east in the late 70's it was $35-40/oz for a long time. Then sometime in the early 80's it doubled it seemed overnight. By the early 90's it was $160/oz. When I moved out west a few years back it was $300/oz or 85/ 1/4oz. Out here it is now $100 per 1/4oz.

That's why I went to growing. I took a big pay cut coming here and the price finally got to me. And the weed I grow, even the ThaiTanic and Satori I just now grew and phucked up is better than the weed sold locally. And I KNOW the SuperSilverHaze(MNS) and Skunk Haze I'm growing now will be far superior to anything around here.

If I were to share any of this haze with any of my friends here, they would demand to know where I got it LOL!! I have a "cover story" all made up to explain where I get my weed though. That's the hardest part of growing...not being able to tell ANYone about it.

IMO I seriously doubt that the value of the dollar vis a vis other currencies has anything to do with it.

Oops I forgot

Pounds in mid late 70's where I was were between $300-350...depending on who you knew, at least in my social circles!! LOL If you can call those guys "social" in any sense of the word. The weed in my area was mostly seedy Columbian sativa in the 70's, some Mex but not a lot. Then in the early mid 80's is when weed went to "sensimilla" as it was called at first. The beginning of indica hybrids as I now know. We liked "no seeds" but it just wasn't the same as the Columbian or the Mexican. The "green" color and "hard" buds caused a lot of talk in the beginning. The Columbian and Mexican sativas were more goldish/brown and the buds were much looser being sativas....assuming they hadn't been crushed. A lot of why and how things changed back in those days is now a lot clearer to me after being on ICMAG.

Thanks for the pricing on weed in the sixties throught to the 80's. I find pricing very interesting and unfortunately I have no experience with the market before the late 80's early 90's.

I understand weed has been going up ever since the early days, but I found prices peaked in the early 90's, and then gradually started decreasing. In the later 90's it seems to have hit the lowest point because of flooding of the then new 'vietnamese weed'. Then around 2005 it starting to increase again. Now we see another drop, or at least the start of a drop in price.

I must stress that I speak of the Golden Horseshoe area around the great lakes, as far as Montreal, but centering on Toronto, Hamilton, Burlington, Brantford area's. But I am sure other area's in Canada experience price fluctuations similar to what we have experienced, although I could be wrong.

I have been doing what I do for 20 years now and I know that the outdoor every year lowers the price of weed temporarily, but I believe this is something different. The weed from outdoors is now just starting to dry up and a few weeks ago people were just starting to get sick of the premature outdoor that's been floating around. Some of it has been good with very few exceptional, but by now all the good stuff is gone and prices still remain low.

I have very close friends that are Vietnamse and he confirmed that their family has stopped sending it to the USA. I know it is only one family that I speak of, but from what he told me it's the same with all the families around the Golden Horseshoe , and it makes sense- the profits are just not there to justify the risk.

Like I stated earlier there are probably large reserves that must first be used up before we see an impact on availability. I guess time will tell what is really going on. Thanks for all the input, and any more input of 'Beasters availability' in your area would be greatly appreciated.

That's very interesting. You may well be right. I haven't "been around" the business end of things for 25+ years...other than to buy small amounts. All the people I knew are dead, too old, or in jail.

Gotta go to work. This is an intersting subject. More later perhaps!

on the east coast theres tons of beast and canadian outdoor... the beast is as dirty as it is everywhere else.. some of the outdoor is actually pretty good.. people around here call um jerry berries or some other slang....
usually more outdoor when the summer ends obviously.. the price is fairly cheap depening on quantity and quality..(2500-3200 lb)

If they can get that price for it on the East Coast then I would think it would be well worth it to ship it there. Here you can now buy good outdoor or as good as it comes Vietnamese (Beasters) for less than $1700.00 a pound, usually cheaper if bought in bulk. May be the route will change from over the boarder to down east? Seems logical. Ship to where it will fetch the best price with the least risk.

You guys would know a lot more about things than I do. I haven't lived on the East Coast for a few years.

That said....I kind of have my doubts about how much weed comes to the mid Atlantic coast from Canada. It doesn't make sense to me.

First it has to come over the border. Getting big weights across the border is very risky. You won't get much weight over the CA border in my part of the US. Not much traffic so they can check pretty closely...and they do.

And dunno about now, but most of the outdoor weed we were getting on the mid Atlantic coast was coming from Western Virginia, West Va. and Kentucky..back in the mountains where they been growing weed forever. Very little risk in transport from there to East Coast.

That make any sense to you guys?

MT

Edit:

I used to hunt a lot back in the mountains when I lived back East. As I said, those folks been growing weed since Moses was a baby. I seriously doubt they would be open to any Canadians shipping weed to what they considertheir markets. And no offense, especially if it was "foreigners" or people from "away" as they say bringing weed in ..they would not like that.

There is no such thing as "friendly competition"...or there didn't used to be. And things are considerably more violent nowdays than in the 60's and 70's. The people I knew were rough, real rough, but lot of these guys today are just psychos. I wouldn't want to be in business in todays world.

What you said makes perfect sense MTweedman. When I said shipping to the east coast, I mean not crossing any borders but still in Canada. Thats what I mean by East coast. I'm terrible with geography, so if I am messed up please let me know. That was one of my worst subjects - and I still have problems to this day as you can see.

I think you are 100% correct when you say where you use to live most the weed would come from the mountains. If there are people growing in the mountains for years now, I couldn't see weed from other places coming in without conflict. And I am sure enough weed comes from the 'mountain people' lol. to satisfy the market.

Very interesting, thanks for the info!

Interesting subject, I'm west coast Canada and I haven't noticed any decline, $2000 is standard for good bud.. that's what we call it though, bud, what the hell are beasters? haha.. it's mostly Viet grown or HA. For a quarter pound 550-600, I remember 5 years ago there's was so much wicked white rhino and white widow around for $450 or so.. those were the days.

I very closely know someone out here who was a pioneer of sorts in the high quality indoor growing that sprang up here in BC. 'Slips' as he calls them, or clones as we know them.. were brought up from California in 1978, $1200 for 8 of them.. wish I knew the name of the strain.. 1000W hps and MH weren't as plentiful and cheap as they are now.. and without the internet and such.. well.. weren't the easiest thing to source back then... and not cheap... so just to go against the grain a bit from the rest of the folks saying bud was cheaper back when... well this stuff wasn't, it sold for $2800lb all through the 80s... but there was nothing else like it..

A few weeks ago, I purchased a QP of actually dried beasters for personal use for $325. This is in the midwest. Needless to say, it's all gone, as I had to keep smoking it to get an enjoyable high. I assume this is what was left over from all the beasters, as it was dry. It's good to know it won't be coming back. Luckily I didn't have to pay a stupid price. In fact, in the old days, I actually paid $50 an 8th for beasters, my first time getting it. Everyone was selling it as dank, because it looks good. But it wasn't.

I used to live in the deep south, seen the beasters there before. Was real compact, keifed and kinda red looking. Flooded the town for a while at real cheap prices. No one will buy it now cause it tastes like cardboard and everyone knows what it is. Is beasters the same thing as vietnamese?

Wow, I didnt consider that at all. Yes, beasters have become scarce in my area of the east coast. I had never seen a drought, but maybe 3 summers ago it started. Ever since then, from May to Oct is ****ing HORRIBLE, maybe see something once or twice. The 'community' has really fizzled out, leaving only 'thugs' who sell .3 dimes of wet haze and failed growers who want you to pay for their incompetence/water.

I can vouch that weed does in fact come from Canada to the East Coast. For a long time, i picked up my p's and they were still in a vac bag with "M39" written in black marker. I had friends in Burlington, who had access, but all those connects have faded.

So hard to find a steady, reliable connect.

aaah, the dreaded beasters i hate that bud,it dont work,lol-when it first started coming around i think everyone i know got tricked atleast once.then we found out it was that b.c so we started callin it that "billy crystal" cause that stuff is a joke.i cant see wasting all my time and effort to grow that b.s. it dont come to my hood anymore cause noone will buy it

you should should check out the article about beast in the cannabible 3 i believe... basiclly about how beast have turned into a cash cow like walmart.. and about how the markup from Can to the Us is crazy..Jason King also breifly goes into what strains are being grown as beasters. Around the tristate area (right now) east coast us--there are an abundance of outdoors. shitty outdoors and some good ones if your lucky.. there all coming from the north (aka straight from canada) ...
there usually not trimmed very well, light green looking with a mediocure amount of crystals. there just not as astheticlly pleasing as beast but taste a hell of alot better.
prices range obv by who you know but anywhere from 24-3000 per lb
people around here are starting to get sick of them and are waiting for the switch back to beast.
i would much prefer the outs tho because not only are they less chemmy but a half p fills a gallon ziplock nicley.. the beast will fill about half of it becasue the nugs are so dense/chemmy/not curred or possiblly kiefed and obvioulsy just grown for weight/money. the beast usually fetches a slightly higher price around here as well.

i guess if your reading you should prollty just stop buying that crap anyway and get down and dirty like the rest of us haha.

Peace . Bsafe

beast is just a term for herb that is very dense, super chemically grown for quickness and maximizing weight, usually has tons of red hairs and no crystals depending whos kiefing it or where you are in line. also tastes terrible and can knock someone out if thrown hard enough...haha
like i said above jason lee has a nice blurb on beast in th cannabible 3 with some commonly used strains and whatnot

Peace
