oops... I made a separate thread about the smuggler before reading this post... :fsu: College is always worth it, learning and broadening your mind will always benefit you in the long run.

pipeline IS right though. i know a guy who has been out on disability more than 5 times. one time he inhaled toxic fumes from a box that someone had shipped that had photo developing chems in it, ended up couphing blood and nearly died. but boyyy did he get paid. a buddy of mine just roled his ankle on purpose and gets paid for sitting on the couch picking his butt.

It depends on what you consider "high class", there's always politics. :joint:

My mom got a DUI, when appearing before the judge; the SOB had the nerve to say "You're new to this aren't you, I have 3!" Then proceeded to sentence her to 6 months suspension anyway.

I dont want to give away much but Im a convicted felon (white collar) and maintain good work in the IT field all the time. The thing is, some places say they will do the background check but don't. If you have a marketable skill a felony conviction other than the real bad stuff like rape or child molestation, etc it shouldnt hold you back too much. I didnt get a college degree either, btw.

I don't post on here too much anymore but I had to respond to this one. I used to be a paramedic. I quit for my own reasons but thats another story. One of my partners had a felony conviction and after doing his time went to school and got his paramedic thing. Long story short, he had a hell of a time getting hired and only did so because he knew some one that knew some one.

Recently I've been looking for a job and even the crapiest jobs say they will do a background investigation. Man I even applied at walmart and couldn't get hired.
I don't have a felony conviction. I think they wouldn't hire me cause I can speak and read english. :D

I've been in business for myself for years now...
But, my experience being interviewed for jobs in the late 80's early 90s included being asked the felony question (I had several) and was always honest...
50% of the time the interview was quickly brought toward an end, and the interviewer's tone was such that I knew the job was a wash...
The other 50%, however (mostly when being interviewed by the actual owners of smaller companies), the question was followed up with "Drug related?" and upon a yes answer the felonies became a non-issue...
This was quite some years ago, and the insurance scene for businesses has changed and there is alot more drug testing now, so I'm not sure how well my experiences apply today...

I don't think that college is worth it even w/out the felony. (I'm saying that from my personal experience....I dont have a college degree, but I make WAY more money than my friends that do)

Being smart about your actions and decisions is what is worth it. I understand why many people take the "college road" into life, its sort of like a semi-guarantee that you will be able to get enough income to start and support a family. I did go to college for 3 years, total waste of time for me, apart from the pussy and the contacts established to earn a bit on the side. All that college did for me was allow me to sell enough MJ to be able to buy the farm I live and work on today so in a sense it wasn't really a total waste.

Right now I run my own agro-business which produces a steady flow of cash for me and as of now I get to keep a lot more money for spending on myself than my friends who have finished college have. A lot of people I know got to the point that they finished college and usually the next step is landing the job and getting married and popping out a few kids. These guys tend to come over for a smoke to my place and tell me that they would have loved to have the foresight I had in setting themselves up in the game of life. I have heard a lot that marriage/kids tend to screw with your head in many ways (Heard positive but mostly I have heard negatives)

Its all about priorities and goals in life really the college thing. Some people dream about getting a degree and integrating themselves into the mold that society has made for people and amen to them if that is their thing.

In my opinion, college is mostly for the type of person who dreams about having "The Family" "The Big Palatial House" "The Driveway with more than 1 car." "Expensive and sometimes useless gadgets". In other words College is like the highway for the "American Dream".

I for one love simple living, I built my own lofted cabin, run my house totally off grid and produce about 75% of what I eat and will not have children of my own. So I guess that with enough ingenuity a person with my priorities in life really doesn't need a college education to live a rewarding and complete life.

Just my grain of salt.

Oh, just to be clear.. you want advice on what to do with a felony you dont have for a job you dont have to better guide you on whether or not to drop out of school?

Is this also assuming youve exhausted all your connections in the chinese porno business? Mr. Hung Wei Lo?

learn a trade(electrician,plumber,etc...) apply to small companies, they usually don't do background checks. as far as the are you a felon question, you don't have to answer this truthfully.that is considered personal and is there job to find out, your just making there job easier by answering. given if you lie and they do a check you won't get hired but you probably were'nt gonna anyway. hell my po knows my employer does'nt know and he is cool with it, because he understands the stigma associated with being a felon. bottom line don't give your employer any reason to suspect. be a hard, honest worker and you well be fine. now sometimes insurance companies well do background checks on all employees before issuing policies to your employer.

^Felons can go to college, but if you have anything drug related on your record you can't get federal aid.

NOT TRUE!

This is a common fallacy. You can get financial aid (department of education) with a drug record. They have something called the drug conviction worksheet. Basically the deal is, if you have a drug felony on your record, you have to successfully complete treatment (rehab). When you fill out your fafsa, indicate this and it'll go through - no worries.

My friend went to jail for a drug related felony. He went to a community college, and received aid from the govt. just like half lotus states.

I went to college for Business Management and Marketing. My goal has been for a few years to start a "garden supply company" that is based solely on the internet. What can I say, I like the target market.:D If I ever receive a felony, I am still able accomplish my goal, so yeah, college was worth it to me.

short answer - No. The application will be immediately thrown out once they see that, and will continue onto the thousand of other applicants without a criminal record, let alone a Felony
