Can Reflectors Create Hot Spots On Lights?

i recently had to invest in a new envirolite... because the bulb started melting the base of the light and consequently buzzed and went dead.

i was wondering if its actually possible for reflectors to mirror heat ( hot spots ) onto the plastic of the light and thus.. melt it??

maybe i positioned the reflector badly, i dont know... any idea's anyone has would be great.

no that is not possible with fluorescent light, sounds like a defect.

125 watt envirolite... it doesnt get very hot at all...horizontal? i think? it was hanging above my lights... check the photo...

there is a theory i have that caused it... instead of chains, i cut the ends off two usb cables and used them to hang the reflector.. although i left the metal ends of the usb cables on the underside by the light otherwise the cable would have just fallen through...

i think the metal part ( you know, the bit that you stick into the computer ) may have heated up and while touching the light started to melt it.. but looking at it now, unless there was some slack which i dont remember there being.. i cant see anyway the metal usb part would have been touching the light....

Your socket looks like a good one. I don't see where the usb would get it hot enough... but mabe over time.
Try to keep the metal clear of the bulb.

Good Luck
